Serving with Pioneers International in Florida

After ministering in Bosnia for eight years, God moved Art and Tammie to work at the Pioneers’ mobilization base in Orlando, Florida. Art is the director of operations and works on the executive team leading the US mobilization base. He has several directors reporting him: facilities, office services, human resources, HeartCraft, hospitality and the KOA. He has also been asked to oversee the project of a new ministry center that will be built in the next two years. Tammie is working with the Member Development Team as the Women’s Resource Coordinator. She hopes to be able to create a program that will help care for and develop PI women to be more effective church planters. As a part-time job, she assists Art with Human Resource projects. Larissa is thriving at Florida State University about four hours from home. Lucas is in fifth grade and loving the organized sports in America.

Well dear friends,

I am coming to you all again just to pray for our dear Larissa. Yesterday, we received news that her biopsy from some thyroid nodules came back positive for cancer. She will be seeing a surgeon next week and will have her thyroid removed within the month. The prognosis for thyroid cancer is quite good even if it has spread to lymph nodes. After the surgery we will find out if she has to have radioactive pills that she takes after the surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells in the neck.

As many of you know, this has been one thing after another with Larissa. It seems like her body is having multi issue problems. It started with a peanut allergy to gluten intolerance (celiacs) to narcolepsy to Lyme (acute ?chronic) to Hashimotos (hypothyroidism) to thyroid cancer. We are completely perplexed as to what is causing all of these issues. And of course it is easy to begin to fear the future, wondering what is coming next with her health.

Please pray for her and also we can put a finger on the possible cause of all of these problems. I am doing lots of reading, researching and listening to any advice - filtering through all of that. Larissa is the sickest but our whole family has issues. I have all similar stuff going on like Larissa - neuro issues, food intolerances and now thyroid nodules like her. Lucas has some issues as well. So I begin to wonder if we got exposed to something in Bosnia? Who knows.

Of course, humanly we want healing and we pray for that. But most importantly, we pray that our faith grows deep in the soil of God's incredible goodness and love for us. I am learning in whole new ways what it means to love Him first. The story of Abraham offering Isaac up has become very personal to me.

Thank you for your prayers and just wanted to let you all know what is happening in our lives right now. Tough season it is!

Tammie
