Serving with CAM International in Windsor

Current Ministry:

Reaching the Hispanic community of Windsor, CA through evangelism, discipleship and church planting.  Since beginning in January 2001, there is now a small congregation of growing believers which make up the church “Iglesia Cristiana Vida Abundante”

In this next term of service Kevin and Yvonne have several goals: 1) To strengthen this new church through leadership development and solid biblical teaching.  2) To work in leadership development through a mobile bible institute ministry.  3) To work with other English speaking churches that desire to begin Hispanic ministries in their communities.  4) To develop short term ministry opportunities to San Antonio la Cienega in the state of Mexico, Mexico to help with a church planting opportunity there.

The Growing Need:

The Hispanic community in the U.S. continues to grow.  Here in California the Hispanic population is expected to be the largest ethnic group by 2020 and by 2040 will represent more than half the population.  In Sonoma County, where Windsor is located, the Hispanic population is currently 22% and will climb to more than 31% by 2050.  The church has a great opportunity to reach its Hispanic neighbor.  CAM International’s mission is to “produce and empower committed followers of Jesus Christ in Spanish-speaking areas to reach the world” and offers valuable experience, resources and personnel to those churches interested in starting or supporting Hispanic works.

Dear Praying Friends,

We value your prayers and part in this ministry to the Hispanic community.  May the Lord be blessed and glorified through what we are doing together.

MEXICO TRIP UPDATE

My trip to Mexico to visit Juan Carlos was a great trip.  It was a great time of fellowship with Juan Carlos to be able to dream and pray together to see what the Lord would have us to do together.  In the town where he lives there is no evangelical church and he doesn’t know of any Christians either.  Also, there is no economy to speak of.  Jobs are scarce and his living conditions are very humble.  So after surveying the situation here are the things we are praying for and would ask that you be in prayer with us:

1.  Establishing Juan Carlos in a small business to provide an income for his family.  We are looking at the idea of growing green house crops.  Purchasing two 1800 sq. ft. green houses will provide enough income for him and his family, and also his 4 brothers who also live on the property.  They would also need to install an irrigation system which would bring water up from the river to their property.

2.  Enlarging Juan Carlos’ house, adding a large living room where he can begin to invite family and neighbors to hold bible studies and can serve as a place for starting a church.

3.  Facilitate theological and ministerial training

4.  Send work teams once or twice a year to help in building projects, community outreach, VBS, training and other needs.

CHURCH UPDATE

Recently we have had to say good-bye to four families as they have moved on for one reason or another.  They will be greatly missed.  However, the Lord continues to bring us new people and families.  Many of them are not Christians yet but are faithful in coming to the services and bible studies.  Pray for the salvation of these new families.  Pastor Libni’s wife, Katia, is active in women’s ministry and doing a great job.  There are 8-10 women each week coming to her house for bible study.  Libni has restarted the marriage group with 8 couple attending.  Also, one Friday night a month we have a “vigilia”, which is an extended service with prayer, worship, activities, message, food and fellowship which can last 4-5 hours.  We have had 3 so far where 35-40 people have turned out.  Please pray for the evangelism outreach we have for the summer months.  It is called Project John 3:16 where we will hit the parks and other places to talk to people about the gospel, pass out tracts and bibles and minister to those the Lord leads us to.

SABBATICAL UPDATE

One of the greatest things that this sabbatical time has provided is more time with the family.  It has been a great blessing to not have to be out in the evening and be available to help at home and be with the kids.  I have also been using this time to visit our supporting churches and new churches.  In these past couple of months we have shared the ministry at First Baptist of Windsor, Calvary Community Church in Rohnert Park and Coast Bible Church in San Juan Capistrano.  In March we were with the Lao/Thai Christian Church to celebrate their 20th anniversary.  This is the church I was able to help plant and then pastor for about 5 years.  In all I was with this work for nearly 12 years.  It was an incredible blessing to see this church continue to meet and Pastor Khongsai faithfully serving there these many years.  This past weekend I was invited to teach a series of messages at a Hispanic church in Santa Rosa.  As you can see the schedule seems to stay busy.

Your co-laborer in Christ,

Kevin
