Dear Friends and Family,
This is a hard email to pass along, but I wanted to thank each and everyone of you who have been praying with me for Azaria Charles during these past few months. Azaria passed away last Sunday while I was away at my annual NTM field conference. I didn't have email so I'm sorry this news has been delayed. It has been a long road for Joseph and Edwina with Azaria in critical condition for several months now, and we now can rest in the truth that she isn't in pain anymore. Would you continue to pray, as the Holy Spirit prompts your hearts, for Edwina and Joseph who are now grieving the loss of their daughter. They will need your prayers.
It has been 3 years since I have seen Azaria because my furlough ended up back to back with her need for a medical leave to return back to their passport country of South Africa. But even as we haven't seen each other in 3 years, I treasure the memories of having worked with her and her parents as they homeschooled Azaria and Joel (their youngest son). It seems strange to think that this beautiful student that ate up every book she could get her hands when I'd come to visit their home, is no longer here. And yet, she is face to face with the author of all truth and wisdom and knowledge right now as I type these words. So, as my heart has grieved the loss of a former student, my heart also rejoices with the hope of seeing her again. I also appreciate your prayers too as this falls only days after the anniversary of my former co-worker Janet's death which was last year. It is yet another opportunity for me to practice the lessons learned last year during Janet's passing which were lessons in experiencing Joy in trials, discovering His strength as I praise the Lord in the midst of pain, and trusting Him for His sovereign plan over life. He knew the days He had planned for Azaria before she was even born; this is not a mistake, nor has it taken God by surprise. He is unchanging, His character good, and His timing perfect.
"Consider it pure joy my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything..." James 1:2-4
Thank you again for your prayers. Here is a thank you from Azaria's parents with a photo attached.
