Daily Word of Encouragement 10.11.25 - Ben Whitford
Creation & Foundations - Genesis 6:1-12 - October 11, 2025
We’re only six chapters into the Bible, and man has gone far astray. Adam and Eve sinned by eating the fruit. Cain killed Abel and was forever cursed. While the people in this time recognized who God was, they did not treat Him as Lord of their lives and drifted far into sinful behaviors.
The Nephilim are rarely mentioned in Scripture. It is known that they were giants and sought fulfillment in the suffering of others. The marriages referenced in chapter six were between the “daughters of men” and the “sons of God”. This relationship is an example of humans trying to bring God into their lives but keep their sinful behaviors, unwilling to change. The text also notes that the Nephilim were famous “heroes and warriors”. They had a reputation for strength, military prowess, but most of all, fame without godliness and righteousness.
This fallout was so great that in verse seven, the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth.” God wanted to destroy all sin, and the only way He saw fit to complete this destruction was a massive flood. There was no hope for these people to change.
As we read verse eight, we see one exception to the disobedient group of people. Noah was a man who found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Noah loved God, and he desired to follow Him. Noah was not influenced by the world around him. He kept his eyes focused on God.
It’s hard to believe that God would need to destroy mankind with the exception of one family to build a path (or a boat) of reconciliation for those who place their trust in Him. We see the story of Jesus Christ in the story of Noah. We see thousands of years later that man has, once again, gone astray. In an effort to reconcile the lost to Him, instead of destroying mankind, God took the weight of the world’s sin on Himself on the cross.
Father God, help us to see your grace in every area of our lives. We ask you to shine your Holy Spirit into our dark chasms, exposing any sin in our lives. Lord, transform us by the renewing of our minds. Use us as witnesses for Your glory through the changes only You can bring about in our lives. Amen.

Solo llevamos seis capítulos de la Biblia y el hombre ya se ha desviado mucho del camino. Adán y Eva pecaron al comer el fruto. Caín mató a Abel y fue maldecido para siempre. Aunque la gente de aquella época reconocía quién era Dios, no lo trataban como el Señor de sus vidas y se desviaron mucho hacia comportamientos pecaminosos.
Los nefilim rara vez se mencionan en las Escrituras. Se sabe que eran gigantes y buscaban la satisfacción en el sufrimiento de los demás. Los matrimonios a los que se hace referencia en el capítulo seis eran entre las «hijas de los hombres» y los «hijos de Dios». Esta relación es un ejemplo de cómo los seres humanos intentaban incorporar a Dios a sus vidas, pero mantenían sus comportamientos pecaminosos, sin estar dispuestos a cambiar. El texto también señala que los nefilim eran famosos «héroes y guerreros». Tenían fama de ser fuertes y valientes en la guerra, pero sobre todo, eran famosos por carecer de piedad y rectitud.
Las consecuencias fueron tan graves que, en el versículo siete, el Señor dijo: «Borraré de la faz de la tierra a la raza humana que he creado». Dios quería destruir todo pecado, y la única forma que consideró adecuada para llevar a cabo esta destrucción fue un diluvio masivo. No había esperanza de que estas personas cambiaran.
Al leer el versículo ocho, vemos una excepción al grupo de personas desobedientes. Noé era un hombre que halló gracia ante los ojos del Señor. Noé amaba a Dios y deseaba seguirlo. Noé no se dejó influir por el mundo que lo rodeaba. Mantuvo sus ojos fijos en Dios.
Es difícil creer que Dios necesitara destruir a la humanidad, con la excepción de una familia, para construir un camino (o un barco) de reconciliación para aquellos que ponen su confianza en Él. Vemos la historia de Jesucristo en la historia de Noé. Vemos que, miles de años después, el hombre, una vez más, se ha descarriado. En un esfuerzo por reconciliar a los perdidos con Él, en lugar de destruir a la humanidad, Dios tomó sobre sí el peso del pecado del mundo en la cruz.
Padre Dios, ayúdanos a ver tu gracia en cada área de nuestras vidas. Te pedimos que hagas brillar tu Espíritu Santo en nuestros oscuros abismos, exponiendo cualquier pecado en nuestras vidas. Señor, transfórmanos mediante la renovación de nuestras mentes. Úsanos como testigos de tu gloria a través de los cambios que solo tú puedes producir en nuestras vidas. Amén.
