Connect with God - 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 - January 1, 2026

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

 Have you ever sat and realized that the almighty, infinite, powerful, sovereign, majestic, glorious, all-knowing, immortal, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the Lord God of armies… wrote you a book.  HE WROTE YOU A BOOK!  God, in His loving will, has spoken to us.  He has revealed Himself to us in a clear and convincing way.  Not only do we see evidence of His grace as we look at creation around us, but we have a glimpse into the very heart of God as we open the Bible.  What a gift!  Did you get anything good for Christmas?  I guarantee it wasn’t as good of a gift as God’s Word!  As we start the new year, it is necessary for us to be reminded of the power and purpose of the Bible in the Christian life.

 2 Timothy 3:16 lays out two truths about the Bible.

 The Bible was written by God.

The Bible is profitable for man.

 First, the Bible was written, or ‘breathed out’ by God.  Just as God breathed life into Adam out of the dust of the ground (Gen 2:7), so He breathes life into the words of Scripture.  Just as God said ‘let there be light’ (Gen 1:3), so God has shined true light into our hearts in His Word.  Yes - human authors wrote down the various books of the Bible.  However, the divine author was the Holy Spirit.  If the Holy Spirit had not inspired the very words of the Bible, it would simply have been another man-made, sin-tainted philosophy of life.  But the Bible is no man-made, sin-tainted philosophy.  The Bible is the words of life to those who believe.  God has told us about His heart, desires, character, works, etc.  And God has also told us what is required of us as His creation.  He wrote us a book.

 Second, the Bible is profitable for us.  Not only is the Bible an amazing book in that it is written by God Himself - but the purpose for which it was given was for our good!  As Christians, we benefit from reading and learning from God’s Word.  Paul, in our text for today, lays out several aspects of this profit.  (1) Teaching, (2) Reproof, (3) Correction, and (4) Training in Righteousness.  Each of these deserves its own treatment, but today, let me just remind you that God uses His Word as a pruning knife in your life.  With it, He cuts away at the sin of your heart, and with it, He shapes us into the man or woman He created us to be.

So, don’t neglect this amazing gift.  Let 2026 be the year that you commit to be in God’s Word daily.  If these morning devotional emails are of assistance to you in that aim, praise the Lord!  What a gracious God we serve, let’s respond in worship.

 2 Timoteo 3:16-17 - Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios y útil para enseñar, para reprender, para corregir y para instruir en la justicia, a fin de que el hombre de Dios sea perfecto, equipado para toda buena obra.

 ¿Alguna vez te has sentado y te has dado cuenta de que el todopoderoso, infinito, poderoso, soberano, majestuoso, glorioso, omnisciente, inmortal, Rey de reyes y Señor de señores, el Alfa y la Omega, el Señor Dios de los ejércitos... te escribió un libro?  ¡ÉL TE ESCRIBIÓ UN LIBRO!  Dios, en su amorosa voluntad, nos ha hablado.  Se nos ha revelado de una manera clara y convincente.  No solo vemos la evidencia de su gracia cuando miramos la creación que nos rodea, sino que también podemos vislumbrar el corazón mismo de Dios cuando abrimos la Biblia. ¡Qué regalo! ¿Recibiste algo bueno por Navidad? ¡Te garantizo que no fue un regalo tan bueno como la Palabra de Dios! Al comenzar el nuevo año, es necesario que recordemos el poder y el propósito de la Biblia en la vida cristiana.

 2 Timoteo 3:16 expone dos verdades sobre la Biblia.

La Biblia fue escrita por Dios.

La Biblia es útil para el hombre.

 En primer lugar, la Biblia fue escrita, o «inspirada», por Dios.  Así como Dios insufló vida a Adán del polvo de la tierra (Génesis 2:7), también insufló vida a las palabras de las Escrituras.  Así como Dios dijo «hágase la luz» (Génesis 1:3), Dios ha hecho brillar la verdadera luz en nuestros corazones en Su Palabra. Sí, los autores humanos escribieron los diversos libros de la Biblia. Sin embargo, el autor divino fue el Espíritu Santo. Si el Espíritu Santo no hubiera inspirado las palabras mismas de la Biblia, esta habría sido simplemente otra filosofía de vida creada por el hombre y manchada por el pecado.  Pero la Biblia no es una filosofía creada por el hombre y mancillada por el pecado. La Biblia es la palabra de vida para aquellos que creen. Dios nos ha hablado de su corazón, sus deseos, su carácter, sus obras, etc. Y Dios también nos ha dicho lo que se espera de nosotros como su creación. Nos escribió un libro.

 En segundo lugar, la Biblia nos es provechosa. La Biblia no solo es un libro asombroso por haber sido escrito por Dios mismo, sino que el propósito para el que fue dada era para nuestro bien. Como cristianos, nos beneficiamos al leer y aprender de la Palabra de Dios. Pablo, en nuestro texto de hoy, expone varios aspectos de este beneficio.  (1) Enseñanza, (2) reprensión, (3) corrección y (4) instrucción en la justicia. Cada uno de estos aspectos merece su propio tratamiento, pero hoy solo quiero recordarles que Dios usa Su Palabra como una podadora en sus vidas. Con ella, Él corta el pecado de sus corazones y nos moldea para convertirnos en los hombres y mujeres que Él creó para que fuéramos.

 Así que no descuiden este maravilloso regalo. Que 2026 sea el año en que se comprometan a estar en la Palabra de Dios todos los días. Si estos correos electrónicos devocionales matutinos les ayudan en ese propósito, ¡alabado sea el Señor! Qué Dios tan misericordioso servimos, respondamos con adoración.
