Connect with God - Colossians 3:16-17 - January 13, 2026

Colossians 3:16-17 - 16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  17  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

 Read the directions.

 You get a new gadget, something to make your work/life easier. You open the package and think to yourself, Oh, I see how this goes together.” Then you start putting it together. The small pamphlet with directions in 5 different languages has been set aside; maybe used as a coaster for your coffee mug. You think, “How responsible I am to remember to use a coaster.) During the assembly, some parts don’t fit quite right. Your frustration starts to rumble. You start to think that the guy who packaged this made a mistake in packing the parts. Then your self-confident mind tells you it might be a good idea to skim the directions. Forty minutes have passed, the coffee is now cold, and you feel like chucking the “almost assembled gadget” in the trash. You blame the manufacturer; the directions are difficult to understand – they must have been written by a person from a country across the Pacific Ocean.

 This may sound familiar to many of us. It has happened to me, too. Here is the application to the devotion scripture: In our lives, we struggle with problems – in finances, marriage, raising children, coping with aging parents, health issues, loneliness, and depression. Where is the peace of Christ and the blessing because we are children of the most High God? The pieces of the “gadget” of living don’t want to fit together as we assumed they would. Becoming a Christian is supposed to give me happiness; well, most of the time anyway. Yet, Jesus said that we would have trouble in our lives.

 The very good news is that the assembly of the pieces of Christian life does come with instructions. It is called the Word of God, the Bible. Paul says, “Let the word of Christ DWELL in you richly, teaching (instructing) and admonishing (correcting, warning) one another in all wisdom.” He hasn’t come to make our lives easier. He has come to make it new and far better than we can ask or think. Read the directions…. Failure to know what God is really like and what he has instructed us causes us confusion and heartache in our day-to-day lives. Dallas Willard writes, “This is the tragic condition of Western culture today, which has put away (not read or considered) the information about God that God himself has made available.”

 In our trials, we feel as if there is no way out. But God WILL pull you through if you can stand the pulling. You say you can’t stand the pulling? Well, stay close to Him because it is actually His hands holding yours that do the pulling. This is the miracle of His grace.

 The point of this verse is to guide you on the right way to get the pieces of your life to work together for good…Through the miracle of his ever-present grace, the problems do have solutions. The word of God leads you to ALL wisdom. Read the directions.

The directions are from the Kingdom of God, the one that Jesus came to bring to earth, so that” in everything that we do, in word or deed, in Jesus’ name causes us to give thanks to God the Father.” The problems he has pulled me through have become experiences for which I am now thankful. They led me to a peace and joy that comes only when the parts of life do not fit as I had expected.

 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly….

 Your part is to open the door of your heart so that they MAY dwell in you. And then do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

 Read the directions. His directions always work. There really is no way to say it better. There really is no way to make it better.

 Colosenses 3:16-17 - 16  Que la palabra de Cristo habite en vosotros abundantemente, enseñándoos y exhortándoos unos a otros con toda sabiduría, cantando con gratitud en vuestros corazones a Dios salmos, himnos y cánticos espirituales.  17  Y todo lo que hagáis, de palabra o de obra, hacedlo en el nombre del Señor Jesús, dando gracias a Dios Padre por medio de él.

 Leed las instrucciones.

 Compráis un nuevo aparato, algo que os facilitará el trabajo o la vida. Abrís el paquete y pensáis: «Ah, ya veo cómo funciona». Entonces empiezas a montarlo. El pequeño folleto con las instrucciones en cinco idiomas diferentes ha quedado a un lado, quizá utilizado como posavasos para tu taza de café. Piensas: «Qué responsable soy por acordarme de usar un posavasos». Durante el montaje, algunas piezas no encajan bien. Tu frustración empieza a crecer. Empiezas a pensar que el tipo que lo empaquetó cometió un error al empaquetar las piezas. Entonces, tu mente segura de sí misma te dice que tal vez sea una buena idea echar un vistazo a las instrucciones. Han pasado cuarenta minutos, el café ya está frío y tienes ganas de tirar el «gadget casi montado» a la basura. Culpas al fabricante; las instrucciones son difíciles de entender, deben de haber sido escritas por alguien de un país al otro lado del océano Pacífico.

 Esto puede resultarnos familiar a muchos de nosotros. A mí también me ha pasado. Aquí está la aplicación a la escritura devocional: en nuestras vidas, luchamos con problemas: financieros, matrimoniales, de crianza de los hijos, de cuidado de padres ancianos, de salud, de soledad y de depresión. ¿Dónde está la paz de Cristo y la bendición por ser hijos del Dios Altísimo? Las piezas del «artilugio» de la vida no encajan como pensábamos que lo harían. Se supone que convertirme en cristiano me da felicidad; bueno, al menos la mayor parte del tiempo. Sin embargo, Jesús dijo que tendríamos problemas en nuestras vidas.

  La buena noticia es que el ensamblaje de las piezas de la vida cristiana viene con instrucciones. Se llama la Palabra de Dios, la Biblia. Pablo dice: «Que la palabra de Cristo more en abundancia en vosotros, enseñándoos (instruyéndoos) y exhortándoos (corrigiéndoos, advirtiéndoos) unos a otros con toda sabiduría». Él no ha venido para hacernos la vida más fácil. Ha venido para hacerla nueva y mucho mejor de lo que podemos pedir o pensar. Lee las instrucciones... No saber cómo es realmente Dios y lo que nos ha enseñado nos causa confusión y dolor en nuestra vida cotidiana. Dallas Willard escribe: «Esta es la trágica condición de la cultura occidental actual, que ha descartado (no ha leído ni considerado) la información sobre Dios que el propio Dios ha puesto a nuestra disposición».

  En nuestras pruebas, sentimos que no hay salida. Pero Dios te sacará adelante si puedes soportar el tirón. ¿Dices que no puedes soportar la tensión? Pues mantente cerca de Él, porque en realidad son Sus manos las que sostienen las tuyas y las que tiran de ti. Este es el milagro de Su gracia.

El objetivo de este versículo es guiarte por el camino correcto para que las piezas de tu vida encajen y funcionen para bien... A través del milagro de Su gracia siempre presente, los problemas tienen solución. La palabra de Dios te lleva a TODA la sabiduría. Lee las instrucciones.

 Las instrucciones provienen del Reino de Dios, el que Jesús vino a traer a la tierra, para que «en todo lo que hacemos, en palabra o en obra, en el nombre de Jesús, demos gracias a Dios Padre». Los problemas por los que me ha hecho pasar se han convertido en experiencias por las que ahora estoy agradecido. Me llevaron a una paz y una alegría que solo se obtienen cuando las piezas de la vida no encajan como yo esperaba.

 Deja que la palabra de Cristo more en ti abundantemente...

 Tu parte es abrir la puerta de tu corazón para que puedan morar en ti. Y luego haz todo en el nombre del Señor Jesús, dando gracias a Dios Padre por medio de él.

 Lee las instrucciones. Sus instrucciones siempre funcionan. Realmente no hay mejor manera de decirlo. Realmente no hay mejor manera de hacerlo.
