Connect with God - Daniel 6:10 - January 17, 2026

Daniel is highly regarded as one of the most influential and devoted of the Old Testament prophets. During his time in high authority of the reign of Darius the Mede, Daniel attracts attention as a man with great wisdom and influence over the King. In doing so, he creates rivals with other men, who wish to usurp his position.

 Through nefarious means, the people who quarreled with Daniel petitioned the King to enact a new law. That being: For 30 days, all worship and praise to any god or man, other than King Darius, was to be met with a sentence of death. 

 The enemies of Daniel knew of his devotion to the Most High and sought to exploit that. Daniel was obviously devastated and distraught at this new ordinance. Even though Daniel faithfully served a pagan king who conquered his people, he was now in a position where he would have to choose between worship and turning his back on God on orders of a conquering regime. 

 In holy defiance, Daniel returns home. However, he does not cower or pray in secret for a few weeks. He nobly swings open his windows, aimed toward the holy city of Jerusalem. Daniel offers himself in obedience on his knees and gladly prays three times every day. 

 In his prayers, Daniel gives thanks to the Lord. In spite of the growing pressure from the newly codified law, he praises and expresses love to our God. Knowing full well that he has secured his fate to be devoured alive by beasts. 

 Of course, this violation is discovered, and Daniel is promptly thrown into the den. However, his faithfulness was known, and he was protected by God. 

 Daniel did not view prayer as something trivial. He viewed it as truly coming before the throne room of God. He viewed it as intercession. His refusal to yield to earthly influences showed that his heart and soul were set on things not of this world.

 Daniel es considerado uno de los profetas más influyentes y devotos del Antiguo Testamento. Durante su tiempo en la alta autoridad del reinado de Darío el medo, Daniel llama la atención como un hombre con gran sabiduría e influencia sobre el rey. Al hacerlo, crea rivales con otros hombres, que desean usurpar su posición.

 Mediante medios nefastos, las personas que se peleaban con Daniel solicitaron al rey que promulgara una nueva ley. Esta ley establecía que, durante 30 días, toda adoración y alabanza a cualquier dios o hombre, excepto al rey Darío, se castigaría con la pena de muerte.

 Los enemigos de Daniel conocían su devoción por el Altísimo y trataron de aprovecharla. Daniel estaba obviamente devastado y angustiado por esta nueva ordenanza. Aunque Daniel servía fielmente a un rey pagano que había conquistado a su pueblo, ahora se encontraba en una posición en la que tenía que elegir entre adorar y dar la espalda a Dios por orden de un régimen conquistador.

 En un acto de santo desafío, Daniel regresa a su casa. Sin embargo, no se acobarda ni reza en secreto durante unas semanas. Noblemente abre sus ventanas, orientadas hacia la ciudad santa de Jerusalén. Daniel se ofrece en obediencia de rodillas y reza con alegría tres veces al día.

 En sus oraciones, Daniel da gracias al Señor. A pesar de la creciente presión de la nueva ley codificada, alaba y expresa su amor a nuestro Dios. Sabiendo muy bien que ha sellado su destino de ser devorado vivo por las bestias.

 Por supuesto, esta violación es descubierta y Daniel es rápidamente arrojado al foso. Sin embargo, su fidelidad era conocida y Dios lo protegió.

 Daniel no consideraba la oración como algo trivial. La veía como algo que realmente lo llevaba ante el trono de Dios. La veía como intercesión. Su negativa a ceder a las influencias terrenales demostraba que su corazón y su alma estaban puestos en cosas que no eran de este mundo.
