Advent | The Coming Savior - Romans 5:1-11 - December 23, 2025

Romans 5:10-11 - For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.  More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

 Reconciliation.  Merriam-Webster defines the word as “the action of reconciling.”  Not super helpful.  However, as I follow the Dictionary trail, the word reconcile is defined as “to restore to friendship or harmony.”  From a biblical perspective, reconciliation is a massive theme through the whole of the Scriptures.  Due to our alienation from God in our sinful state - we desperately need reconciliation with God.  We are at enmity with Him, and apart from His grace, we have no hope.  

 Have you ever been in a broken relationship?  Perhaps it was someone you once trusted, called a friend, or even loved.  And all of a sudden, the relationship was shattered.  The amazing news is that reconciliation of broken relationships is right at the center of God’s Will.  It is God’s desire that none should perish but that all should be reconciled to Him in a union and, by proxy, with other believers as a part of the family of God.  So - whether it be a broken human relationship or our broken relationship with God - we can take solace in the fact that God is in the business of reconciliation.  

 In Romans 5, Paul reflects on the great joy we can have through Christ, the object of our reconciliation.  This Christmas, we reflect back on the work of Christ done for us.  The baby was born in the manger for this purpose - to reconcile sinners to God.  Everything Jesus did was with this end in mind.  It is His great desire; you are His treasure.  

 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 says, “All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”

 Here’s the takeaway:

 God has reconciled us to Himself through all that Jesus has done - Praise the Lord!

We have been given the ministry of reconciliation - sharing the Gospel with others… and this Christmas, it’s go time.

 Romanos 5:10-11 - Porque si cuando éramos enemigos fuimos reconciliados con Dios por la muerte de su Hijo, mucho más, ahora que estamos reconciliados, seremos salvos por su vida.  Más aún, nos gloriamos en Dios por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, por quien ahora hemos recibido la reconciliación.

 Reconciliación.  Merriam-Webster define la palabra como «la acción de reconciliar».  No es muy útil.  Sin embargo, según el diccionario, la palabra reconciliar se define como «restablecer la amistad o la armonía».  Desde una perspectiva bíblica, la reconciliación es un tema muy importante en todas las Escrituras. Debido a nuestro alejamiento de Dios en nuestro estado pecaminoso, necesitamos desesperadamente la reconciliación con Dios. Estamos enemistados con Él y, aparte de Su gracia, no tenemos esperanza. 

 ¿Alguna vez has tenido una relación rota?  Quizás era alguien en quien alguna vez confiaste, a quien llamabas amigo o incluso amabas. Y, de repente, la relación se rompió. La buena noticia es que la reconciliación de las relaciones rotas está en el centro de la voluntad de Dios. El deseo de Dios es que nadie perezca, sino que todos se reconcilien con Él en una unión y, por extensión, con otros creyentes como parte de la familia de Dios.  Así que, ya sea una relación humana rota o nuestra relación rota con Dios, podemos consolarnos con el hecho de que Dios se dedica a la reconciliación.  

 En Romanos 5, Pablo reflexiona sobre la gran alegría que podemos tener a través de Cristo, el objeto de nuestra reconciliación.  Esta Navidad, reflexionamos sobre la obra de Cristo hecha por nosotros.  El bebé nació en el pesebre con este propósito: reconciliar a los pecadores con Dios.  Todo lo que Jesús hizo fue con este fin en mente. Es su gran deseo; tú eres su tesoro. 

 2 Corintios 5:18-19 dice: «Todo esto proviene de Dios, quien por medio de Cristo nos reconcilió consigo mismo y nos dio el ministerio de la reconciliación; es decir, en Cristo, Dios estaba reconciliando al mundo consigo mismo, sin tomar en cuenta sus transgresiones y confiándonos el mensaje de la reconciliación».

 Esta es la conclusión:

Dios nos ha reconciliado consigo mismo a través de todo lo que Jesús ha hecho. ¡Alabado sea el Señor!

Se nos ha dado el ministerio de la reconciliación: compartir el Evangelio con los demás... y esta Navidad es el momento de hacerlo.

 ¡Ve con la intención de compartir el Evangelio!
