Advent | The Coming Savior - John 3:16-21 - December 26, 2025
John 3:16-21 - For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.
Our enlightenment begins with God’s amazing, self-sacrificing love for the world and the people He created. Out of His love, He gave. He gave His only, beloved Son! What did that accomplish? It provided THE WAY of salvation for the world God loves, contrasted with the perishing condemnation already in place for those who do not believe Christ did anything of value by dying on the cross. Thinking they need no forgiveness, they reject that offer.
God did not have condemnation in mind when the Son came into the world. Mankind already deserved condemnation because, in preference to obedience, the world had chosen disobedience. Jesus’ advent to earth was God’s line in the sand, so to speak. The life, death, and resurrection of the Son clarified the line of demarcation. There is salvation in the Son for those who step over the line and trust Him to forgive their sin. Those who are “condemned already” refuse to believe the seriousness of their sin, having no interest in what Christ accomplished on the cross.
“Judgment” implies a conclusion has been reached. This is the conclusion of the Judge, Almighty God: He provided light for people to see their behavior and recognize it as evil and sinful. If they choose to persist in evil, they refuse both God’s evaluation of their choices and the rescue God provides. They turn away from God’s light, not wanting their behavior exposed. BUT not every sinner shuns the light. Those who have been given faith to trust the Son for His forgiveness are also given the desire to change and do “what is true”. They welcome the exposure of the light and want their actions recognized as God at work in them.

Juan 3:16-21 - Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo, que dio a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que cree en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna. Porque Dios no envió a su Hijo al mundo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo sea salvo por él. El que cree en él no es condenado, pero el que no cree ya ha sido condenado, porque no ha creído en el nombre del Hijo único de Dios. Y este es el juicio: que la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz, porque sus obras eran malas. Porque todo aquel que hace lo malo odia la luz y no viene a la luz, para que sus obras no sean expuestas. Pero el que practica la verdad viene a la luz, para que se vea claramente que sus obras han sido realizadas en Dios.
Nuestra iluminación comienza con el asombroso y abnegado amor de Dios por el mundo y por las personas que Él creó. Por amor, Él dio. ¡Dio a su único y amado Hijo! ¿Qué se logró con eso? Se proporcionó EL CAMINO de la salvación para el mundo que Dios ama, en contraste con la condenación ya establecida para aquellos que no creen que Cristo hizo algo valioso al morir en la cruz. Pensando que no necesitan perdón, rechazan esa oferta.
Dios no tenía en mente la condenación cuando el Hijo vino al mundo. La humanidad ya merecía la condenación porque, en lugar de la obediencia, el mundo había elegido la desobediencia. La llegada de Jesús a la tierra fue, por así decirlo, la línea divisoria de Dios. La vida, muerte y resurrección del Hijo aclararon la línea de demarcación. Hay salvación en el Hijo para aquellos que cruzan la línea y confían en Él para que perdone sus pecados. Los que ya están «condenados» se niegan a creer en la gravedad de su pecado y no tienen interés en lo que Cristo logró en la cruz.
«Juicio» implica que se ha llegado a una conclusión. Esta es la conclusión del Juez, Dios Todopoderoso: Él proporcionó luz para que las personas vieran su comportamiento y lo reconocieran como malo y pecaminoso. Si eligen persistir en el mal, rechazan tanto la evaluación de Dios de sus elecciones como el rescate que Dios les ofrece. Se alejan de la luz de Dios, porque no quieren que se exponga su comportamiento. PERO no todos los pecadores rehúyen la luz. A aquellos a quienes se les ha dado la fe para confiar en el Hijo por su perdón, también se les ha dado el deseo de cambiar y hacer «lo que es verdadero». Acogen con agrado la exposición de la luz y quieren que sus acciones sean reconocidas como la obra de Dios en ellos.
