Practical Ways to Serve - Acts 4:32-35 - April 27, 2025 

‭‭Acts‬ ‭4‬:‭32‬-‭35‬ ‭ESV‬‬ - "Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need." 

The Movement of the Holy Spirit 

Jesus Christ has risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, and now the promised Holy Spirit of God has come. Leading a movement that cannot and will not be stopped. A movement that has continued and is happening at this very moment, all over the world, and in your very soul. Jesus tells us in Matthew Chapter 16 that the gates of hell will not stand against it. This movement is the church. Jesus Christ is the head, and everyone who believes in the name of the Son of God becomes Christ's body—the presence of God on the earth in this age. 

Imagine with me that you are one of these first believers who have been filled with the Holy Spirit. You look around you, and the man who begs by the temple is now part of the body of Christ. He has nothing and is still begging and proclaiming the resurrection from the streets. "Why should I have so much and he have so little?" You think. Your heart burns with pain at the injustice, and you are filled with a desire to care for him, so you decide to sell all the family property that has been passed down for generations and give it to the church so that this poor man, who is now your brother in Christ, doesn't lack anything. You don't even consider what you have as belonging to yourself anymore. And it's not just you doing this; many others are being led to do the same thing. The same people you saw before and passed by, you are now willing to give up your life to serve. 

The Holy Spirit not only makes us aware of those in need but also drives us to do something about it. The world makes us look at the injustice we are going through, but the Holy Spirit causes us to see the injustices in the lives of those around us. Jesus Christ is calling us to consider the valuable things that the world says belong to us and consider them to belong to His body, the church. 

Self-Reflection 

Do I see my valuable things (time, money, property, gifts, talents, etc) as belonging to myself? Or do I see them as belonging to God, to be shared with the church? 

What is something I find uncomfortable to share? 

Is there someone in the body with a need for which I have the resources to help? 

Father, by your Holy Spirit, I come before you now, asking you to give me eyes that see those in need. Burn off the flesh that wants to cling to the things of this world at the expense of my brother or sister in need. Help me to give without expecting anything in return. There is fear of letting go in my heart. God, please overcome this fear in me. Thank you for giving up everything so that I can have life. Let me walk in your footsteps and give up my life to serve the one who lacks. In Jesus' name for your glory. Amen.

Formas prácticas de servir - Hechos 4:32-35 - 27 de abril de 2025 

‭‭Hechos‬ ‭4‬:‭32‬-‭35‬ ‭ESV‬‬ - «Ahora bien, todos los que habían creído eran un solo corazón y una sola alma, y nadie decía que nada de lo que tenía era suyo, sino que todo era común entre ellos. Y con gran poder los apóstoles daban testimonio de la resurrección del Señor Jesús, y gran gracia era sobre todos ellos. No había entre ellos ningún necesitado, porque todos los que poseían tierras o casas las vendían y traían el producto de lo vendido y lo ponían a los pies de los apóstoles, y se repartía a cada uno según su necesidad». 

El movimiento del Espíritu Santo 

Jesucristo ha resucitado de entre los muertos y ha ascendido al cielo, y ahora ha venido el Espíritu Santo prometido por Dios. Liderando un movimiento que no puede ser detenido ni lo será. Un movimiento que ha continuado y está ocurriendo en este mismo momento, en todo el mundo y en tu propia alma. Jesús nos dice en Mateo, capítulo 16, que las puertas del infierno no prevalecerán contra él. Este movimiento es la iglesia. Jesucristo es la cabeza, y todos los que creen en el nombre del Hijo de Dios se convierten en el cuerpo de Cristo, la presencia de Dios en la tierra en esta era. 

Imagina conmigo que eres uno de estos primeros creyentes que han sido llenos del Espíritu Santo. Miras a tu alrededor y el hombre que mendiga junto al templo ahora es parte del cuerpo de Cristo. No tiene nada y sigue mendigando y proclamando la resurrección desde las calles. «¿Por qué yo tengo tanto y él tan poco?», piensas. Tu corazón arde de dolor por la injusticia y te invade el deseo de cuidar de él, así que decides vender todas las propiedades familiares que han sido transmitidas de generación en generación y dárselas a la iglesia para que este pobre hombre, que ahora es tu hermano en Cristo, no le falte nada. Ya ni siquiera consideras que lo que tienes te pertenece. Y no eres el único que hace esto; muchos otros están siendo impulsados a hacer lo mismo. Las mismas personas que antes veías y pasabas de largo, ahora estás dispuesto a dar tu vida para servirles. 

El Espíritu Santo no solo nos hace conscientes de los necesitados, sino que también nos impulsa a hacer algo al respecto. El mundo nos hace ver la injusticia que estamos sufriendo, pero el Espíritu Santo nos hace ver las injusticias en la vida de quienes nos rodean. Jesucristo nos llama a considerar las cosas valiosas que el mundo dice que nos pertenecen y considerarlas como pertenecientes a su cuerpo, la iglesia. 

Autorreflexión 

¿Considero que mis cosas valiosas (tiempo, dinero, propiedades, dones, talentos, etc.) me pertenecen? ¿O las considero como pertenecientes a Dios, para ser compartidas con la iglesia? 

¿Qué es lo que me resulta incómodo compartir? 

¿Hay alguien en el cuerpo que tenga una necesidad para la que yo tenga los recursos para ayudar? 

Padre, por tu Espíritu Santo, me presento ante ti ahora, pidiéndote que me des ojos para ver a los necesitados. Quema la carne que quiere aferrarse a las cosas de este mundo a expensas de mi hermano o hermana necesitados. Ayúdame a dar sin esperar nada a cambio. Hay miedo en mi corazón a dejar ir. Dios, por favor, vence este miedo en mí. Gracias por darlo todo para que yo pueda tener vida. Déjame seguir tus pasos y entregar mi vida para servir al que carece. En el nombre de Jesús, para tu gloria. Amén.
