Jesus’ Final Week - Luke 24:13-35 - April 29, 2026
As we are making our way through the life of our Savior Jesus, we come across a story taking place right after His resurrection, involving believers feeling defeated; have you ever felt that way? I know I have! Yet Jesus reminds us that He is always there when we need Him.
Two believers were on their way to Emmaus, which is approximately seven miles from Jerusalem, so this was not a short conversation as it would have taken them hours to get there. They were discussing all of what had taken place, though they had not realized Jesus had risen! They were not feeling victorious, as verse 17 tells us they were looking sad. Jesus Himself comes to them, though they could not recognize Him; and Jesus asked them: what are you guys talking about? As I read this passage, I chuckled a bit because it shows us God really does have a sense of humor. Imagine these believers telling Jesus, “Are you the only one unaware of all that has happened these days?” The irony! In fact, Jesus was the ONLY ONE who truly knew what was happening. So, Jesus goes along with the conversation and they tell Him all that was in their mind and their hearts; here we see how gracious and slow to anger the Lord really is because rather than reacting angrily to the lack of faith from the believers, Jesus took the time to disciple them and explain from the Scriptures, why it was necessary for all of these thing to occur.
This story ends with the believers recognizing Jesus and feeling their hearts burning with Joy because they finally truly believed Jesus had risen. Can you imagine what that must have felt to have seen Jesus after everything that happened? We have the honor of having a relationship with Jesus through prayer and scripture, so I invite you to believe Jesus is with you because He has promised it to us: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” Matthew 28:20.

Mientras meditamos en la vida de nuestro Salvador Jesús, nos encontramos con una historia que ocurre justo después de Su resurrección, en la que creyentes se sienten derrotados; ¿Alguna vez te has sentido así? ¡Yo sí lo he sentido! Sin embargo, Jesús nos recuerda que siempre está ahí cuando le necesitamos.
Dos creyentes iban camino a Emaús, que está aproximadamente a siete millas de Jerusalén, así que no fue una conversación corta, ya que les habría llevado horas llegar. Estaban discutiendo todo lo ocurrido, aunque no se habían dado cuenta de que Jesús había resucitado. No se sentían victoriosos, ya que el versículo 17 nos dice que tenían un aspecto triste. El mismo Jesús se acerca a ellos, aunque no pudieran reconocerle; y Jesús les preguntó: ¿de qué estáis hablando? Al leer este pasaje, me reí un poco porque nos muestra que Dios realmente tiene sentido del humor. Imagina a estos creyentes diciéndole a Jesús mismo: “¿Eres el único que no sabe todo lo que ha pasado últimamente?” ¡La ironía! De hecho, Jesús era el ÚNICO que realmente sabía lo que estaba pasando. Así que Jesús sigue la conversación y le cuentan a El todo lo que tenían en mente y en su corazón; aquí vemos lo misericordioso y lento que es para la ira el Señor porque, en lugar de reaccionar con ira ante la falta de fe de los creyentes, Jesús tomó el tiempo de discipularlos y explicar, a partir de las Escrituras, por qué era necesario que todo esto ocurriera.
Esta historia termina con los creyentes reconociendo a Jesús y sintiendo cómo sus corazones ardían de gozo porque finalmente creyeron verdaderamente que Jesús había resucitado. ¿Te imaginas lo que debió de sentir ver a Jesús después de todo lo que pasó? Tenemos el honor de tener una relación con Jesús a través de la oración y las escrituras, así que los exhorto a creer que Jesús está con ustedes porque Él nos lo ha prometido: “Yo estoy con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo.” Mateo 28:20.
