Attributes of God - God is Just - May 17, 2026

When we think about justice, we often think about people getting what they deserve.  Good people get good things and bad people are punished, cue the theme song of “Law and Order”.   We think of courts where laws are upheld and proceedings are overseen by a Justice of the Peace. We assume that our justice system will always provide what it is supposed to- justice.  None of these things are wrong, however they only apply to human justice.

Today’s verse, Deuteronomy 32:4 describes God as being just.

The Rock, his work is perfect,
   for all his ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,
   just and upright is he.

Just is he.  It is not an Adjective describing God's actions.  God's justice is an aspect of his character, of who he is.   He is just, and he cannot be unjust.  His justice is perfect because he is perfect.  

Here in the US, we are blessed to have a say in the laws of our country, and even to have the opportunity to both be heard by and be on a jury of our peers.  People get to vote on how the laws they voted on in the first place are carried out.  This is human justice, and although we have it better than most, mistakes are still made.

Cuando pensamos en la justicia, a menudo pensamos en que las personas reciban lo que merecen. Las personas buenas reciben cosas buenas y las personas malas son castigadas; empieza la música de La Ley y el Orden. Pensamos en tribunales donde se hacen cumplir las leyes y los procedimientos son supervisados por un juez de paz. Asumimos que nuestro sistema de justicia siempre proveerá lo que se supone que debe proveer: justicia. Ninguna de estas cosas está mal; sin embargo, solo se aplican a la justicia humana.

El versículo de hoy, Deuteronomio 32:4, describe a Dios como justo:

“La Roca, Su obra es perfecta,
porque todos Sus caminos son justos.
Dios de fidelidad y sin injusticia,
justo y recto es Él.”

Justo es Él. No es simplemente un adjetivo que describe las acciones de Dios. La justicia de Dios es un aspecto de Su carácter, de quién Él es. Él es justo, y no puede ser injusto. Su justicia es perfecta porque Él es perfecto.

Aquí en los Estados Unidos, somos bendecidos al poder tener voz en las leyes de nuestro país, e incluso al tener la oportunidad tanto de ser escuchados por un jurado de nuestros iguales como de formar parte de uno. Las personas pueden votar sobre cómo se aplican las leyes por las que votaron en primer lugar. Esto es justicia humana, y aunque la tenemos mejor que muchos, todavía se cometen errores.
