Daily Word of Encouragement 6.1.26 - Julian Marcel

Ezra|Esther|Nehemiah - Ezra 1:1-11 - June 1, 2026

Ezra 1:1 - In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing.

As we enter this month looking at Ezra, Esther, and Nehemiah, we begin with the proclamation of King Cyrus of Persia.  Here in Ezra 1, we read that God stirred in his spirit to cause him to declare that the people of Israel would return and rebuild the temple.  Over a century prior, the Babylonian empire had seized Jerusalem and destroyed the sacred temple.  The Jewish people had been exiled from the promised land, and hope was slim.

And so the beginning of the book of Ezra is like a glint of light shining through a very dark room.  This room had been dark with no sign of life… and boom!  Just like that - God proved His faithfulness once again.  He had, in fact, not abandoned His people.  He went so far as to move in the heart of a Persian king.  Isn’t it amazing; the sovereignty of our God.  

Proverbs 21:1 says, “The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.”  Yes - this even applies to kings, leaders, government officials, and the rest who DON’T know Christ (and who don’t agree with our politics).  The truth is that God uses everyone and everything for His perfect purpose and plan.  There is not one person in a position of authority which He has not placed there for a reason.  Don’t get it twisted - this doesn’t mean everyone in authority is equally good.  It just means that we can trust that God has worked out all the details, even when we can’t see them.

Over the period of the exile, I can only imagine that the Jewish people were struggling to maintain faith.  But God was working behind the scenes to bring them back.  For many, they died while in exile.  It would seem that God had abandoned them.  But God doesn’t work on our timeline; He works on His heavenly timeline.  

So - where are you struggling to trust God?  What circumstances in your life cause you to doubt His promises?  Which relationships test the limits of your love?  

Be encouraged.  In the same way God remained faithful to work in the heart of a Persian king to fulfill His promise, He will work in 1,000 ways to fulfill all His promises to you.  Take heart; and take courage.  The Holy Spirit in us is the down payment, the guarantee of all of this.  Praise God for His faithfulness.

Esdras 1:1 – En el primer año de Ciro, rey de Persia, para que se cumpliera la palabra del Señor por boca de Jeremías, el Señor despertó el espíritu de Ciro, rey de Persia, de modo que hizo una proclamación por todo su reino y también la puso por escrito.

Al entrar en este mes estudiando Esdras, Ester y Nehemías, comenzamos con la proclamación del rey Ciro de Persia. Aquí en Esdras 1, leemos que Dios despertó su espíritu para hacer que declarara que el pueblo de Israel regresaría y reconstruiría el templo. Más de un siglo antes, el imperio babilónico había tomado Jerusalén y destruido el templo sagrado. El pueblo judío había sido exiliado de la tierra prometida, y la esperanza era escasa.

Así que el comienzo del libro de Esdras es como un destello de luz brillando en una habitación muy oscura. Esa habitación había estado oscura, sin señal de vida… ¡y de repente! Así de rápido, Dios demostró una vez más Su fidelidad. En realidad, Él no había abandonado a Su pueblo. Llegó incluso a obrar en el corazón de un rey persa. ¿No es asombrosa la soberanía de nuestro Dios?

Proverbios 21:1 dice: “El corazón del rey es como un arroyo de agua en la mano del Señor; Él lo dirige hacia donde quiere”. Sí, esto también se aplica a reyes, líderes, funcionarios del gobierno y todos los demás que no conocen a Cristo, incluso aquellos que no están de acuerdo con nuestra política. La verdad es que Dios usa a todos y todo para Su propósito y plan perfectos. No hay ni una sola persona en una posición de autoridad a quien Él no haya colocado allí por una razón. Pero no lo malinterpretes: esto no significa que todos los que están en autoridad sean igualmente buenos. Simplemente significa que podemos confiar en que Dios ha ordenado todos los detalles, aun cuando nosotros no podamos verlos.

Durante el período del exilio, solo puedo imaginar que el pueblo judío luchaba por mantener la fe. Pero Dios estaba obrando tras bambalinas para traerlos de regreso. Muchos murieron mientras estaban en el exilio. Parecería que Dios los había abandonado. Pero Dios no obra según nuestra línea de tiempo; Él obra según Su línea de tiempo celestial.

Entonces, ¿en qué área estás luchando por confiar en Dios? ¿Qué circunstancias de tu vida te hacen dudar de Sus promesas? ¿Qué relaciones ponen a prueba los límites de tu amor?

Anímate. De la misma manera en que Dios permaneció fiel y obró en el corazón de un rey persa para cumplir Su promesa, Él obrará de mil maneras para cumplir todas Sus promesas para ti. Cobra ánimo y ten valor. El Espíritu Santo en nosotros es el adelanto, la garantía de todo esto. Alabado sea Dios por Su fidelidad.
