Daily Word of Encouragement 6.30.25 - Ben Steele

Teachings of Jesus - Revelation 22:8-21 - June 30, 2025 

"He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." - Revelation 22:20-21 

Pastor Rich keeps a countdown app on his phone, so at any time, he can tell you the number of days until his next vacation (56), Christmas (178), or Easter (279) - and hopefully, he has his wife's birthday on there too! I think we all understand that the next big event requires some preparation, whether it be cleaning, packing, planning, or celebrating. As we get closer, the anticipation and urgency to be ready builds. That plane is leaving, whether you are packed or not! 

As we close out June and this section of the Teachings of Jesus, this passage in Revelation ties together many of the themes we've explored this month. We've read about Jesus being light, salt, the resurrection, the good shepherd, and the only way. We've learned that the earth is not our home, that we have been graciously brought into the Kingdom of God, and that God's forgiveness covers all our shortcomings. And we've learned that, because of all this, we should be transformed in our actions, speech, relationships, and hearts. The passage today takes all of those things and stamps them with a big, red "URGENT" stamp.   

It's natural for us to prioritize based on what is coming up next. If the next big thing on your countdown app is a big vacation, your mental efforts and time is spent getting ready. You need to book flights, reserve a car and hotels, make dinner reservations, buy sunscreen, get someone to watch your dogs ... and so on! At the same time, we tend to push things without a date or a deadline towards the bottom of our list. Events that can be handled down the road get handled down the road. But notice verse 20 - those are red letters (there's an option in the settings if you're reading this on Bible Gateway or in your app)! Jesus Himself is saying, 'I am coming soon!' What he's saying is, don't put off spending your time, energy, planning, and preparation for His return because it's at the bottom of your app. This needs to be at the top of the list! The transformation that we've learned about all this month is the priority. Yes, we don't know the day, but that needs to increase the importance, not decrease it. Everything we do - our time, energy, money, talents, and relationships - should reflect the fact that we place Jesus and His return of the highest urgency. It could be today!

Lord, we eagerly anticipate the return of Jesus. We long to be with you in Heaven for eternity. Please help us live every day and every moment with this in mind. Please give us gospel urgency and guide us to spend our time, energy, and money on things of eternal value. Even so, come! May we be found ready on that day! Amen.

Enseñanzas de Jesús - Apocalipsis 22:8-21 - 30 de junio de 2025 

«El que da testimonio de estas cosas dice: «Ciertamente vengo pronto». Amén. ¡Ven, Señor Jesús! La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con todos vosotros. Amén». - Apocalipsis 22:20-21 

El pastor Rich tiene una aplicación de cuenta atrás en su teléfono, para poder saber en cualquier momento cuántos días faltan para sus próximas vacaciones (56), Navidad (178) o Pascua (279) y, con suerte, ¡también tiene apuntado el cumpleaños de su esposa! Creo que todos entendemos que los grandes acontecimientos requieren cierta preparación, ya sea limpiar, hacer las maletas, planificar o celebrar. A medida que se acerca la fecha, aumenta la expectación y la urgencia por estar listos. ¡El avión va a salir, hayas hecho las maletas o no!   

Al cerrar el mes de junio y esta sección de las Enseñanzas de Jesús, este pasaje del Apocalipsis relaciona muchos de los temas que hemos explorado este mes. Hemos leído que Jesús es la luz, la sal, la resurrección, el buen pastor y el único camino. Hemos aprendido que la tierra no es nuestro hogar, que hemos sido traídos misericordiosamente al Reino de Dios y que el perdón de Dios cubre todas nuestras deficiencias. Y hemos aprendido que, debido a todo esto, debemos transformarnos en nuestras acciones, palabras, relaciones y corazones. El pasaje de hoy toma todas esas cosas y les pone un gran sello rojo que dice «URGENTE». 

Es natural que prioricemos en función de lo que se avecina. Si lo próximo en tu agenda es unas vacaciones importantes, dedicarás tu tiempo y esfuerzo mental a prepararlas. Tienes que reservar los vuelos, el coche y los hoteles, hacer reservas para cenar, comprar protector solar, buscar a alguien que cuide de tus perros... ¡y un sinfín de cosas más! Al mismo tiempo, tendemos a dejar las cosas sin fecha o sin plazo en la parte inferior de nuestra lista. Los eventos que se pueden manejar más adelante se manejan más adelante. Pero fíjate en el versículo 20: esas letras están en rojo (hay una opción en la configuración si estás leyendo esto en Bible Gateway o en tu aplicación). Jesús mismo está diciendo: «¡Vengo pronto!». Lo que está diciendo es: no pospongas el tiempo, la energía, la planificación y la preparación para su regreso porque está al final de tu aplicación. ¡Esto debe estar en la parte superior de la lista! 

La transformación que hemos aprendido durante todo este mes es la prioridad. Sí, no sabemos el día, pero eso debe aumentar la importancia, no disminuirla. Todo lo que hacemos —nuestro tiempo, energía, dinero, talentos y relaciones— debe reflejar el hecho de que ponemos a Jesús y su regreso como la máxima prioridad. ¡Podría ser hoy!

Señor, esperamos ansiosamente el regreso de Jesús. Anhelamos estar contigo en el cielo por toda la eternidad. Por favor, ayúdanos a vivir cada día y cada momento con esto en mente. Por favor, danos la urgencia del evangelio y guíanos para que dediquemos nuestro tiempo, energía y dinero a cosas de valor eterno.¡Aun así, ven! ¡Que estemos preparados para ese día! Amén.
