Ezra|Esther|Nehemiah - Ezra 3:1-7 - June 3, 2026
John 14:15 "If you LOVE ME, keep My commandments."
In the book of Ezra, we see the Israelites returning from a 70-year exile in Babylon, where God had sent them because of their sinful disobedience and persistent rebellion. They returned from their exile, excited to help rebuild the temple and establish a covenant worship. Proverbs 3:11-12 and Hebrews 12:6 lay out God's approach to disciplining those in His family who have walked away and fallen into sin.
* Proverbs 3:11-12 "Do not reject the discipline of the Lord, or loathe His reproof, for whom the Lord loves He reproves."
* Hebrews 12:6 "For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives."
There is one statement that is repeated twice in these verses: "Whom the Lord loves." This principle was the same when our parents disciplined us. At the time, we probably didn't grasp the benefits of the discipline, and maybe even asked our parents, "To love us a little less," but looking back now, we are thankful that they showed their love in this way.
Are there biblical commandments that you aren't obeying? Even though you can see and feel God's discipline as He tries to draw you back into fellowship with Him, you are stiff-arming and quenching the Holy Spirit's guidance, and trying to rationalize what you are or are not doing. Maybe there is no particular commandment that you are disobeying. Still, you have reached a comfortable contentment just resting on a spiritual plateau, where you are no longer the ambassador for your Savior that you once were. Take a few minutes and do the following. Think back to what your Christian walk was like five years ago, then compare it to your walk with your Savior now. If you see that you have grown spiritually, PRAISE THE LORD, but if you see that you have slid backward, or you are basking on a spiritual plateau, go before the Lord in prayer and ask Him to do whatever it takes to reinvigorate your spirituality.
P.S. Yes, God disciplines us when we fall into disobedience and sin, but like with the Prodigal Son, when we return from our wandering and going astray, our Heavenly Father will be there to greet us with open arms.

Juan 14:15 – “Si me aman, guardarán Mis mandamientos”.
En el libro de Esdras, vemos a los israelitas regresando de un exilio de 70 años en Babilonia, adonde Dios los había enviado por causa de su desobediencia pecaminosa y su rebelión persistente. Regresaron de su exilio emocionados por ayudar a reconstruir el templo y establecer la adoración del pacto. Proverbios 3:11–12 y Hebreos 12:6 presentan la manera en que Dios disciplina a los de Su familia que se han alejado y han caído en pecado.
Proverbios 3:11–12 – “No rechaces la disciplina del Señor, ni aborrezcas Su reprensión, porque el Señor reprende a quien ama”.
Hebreos 12:6 – “Porque el Señor disciplina a los que ama, y azota a todo hijo que recibe”.
Hay una frase que se repite dos veces en estos versículos: “a quien el Señor ama”. Este principio era el mismo cuando nuestros padres nos disciplinaban. En ese momento, probablemente no entendíamos los beneficios de la disciplina, y tal vez incluso les pedíamos a nuestros padres que “nos amaran un poquito menos”. Pero al mirar atrás ahora, estamos agradecidos de que nos hayan mostrado su amor de esa manera.
¿Hay mandamientos bíblicos que no estás obedeciendo? Aunque puedes ver y sentir la disciplina de Dios mientras Él intenta atraerte de regreso a la comunión con Él, tal vez estás resistiendo y apagando la guía del Espíritu Santo, tratando de justificar lo que estás haciendo o dejando de hacer. Quizá no haya un mandamiento específico que estés desobedeciendo. Pero aun así, puede que hayas llegado a una comodidad espiritual, descansando en una meseta donde ya no eres el embajador de tu Salvador como antes lo eras.
Tómate unos minutos y haz lo siguiente: piensa en cómo era tu caminar cristiano hace cinco años, y luego compáralo con tu caminar con tu Salvador ahora. Si ves que has crecido espiritualmente, ¡alabado sea el Señor! Pero si ves que has retrocedido, o que estás descansando cómodamente en una meseta espiritual, ve delante del Señor en oración y pídele que haga lo que sea necesario para reavivar tu vida espiritual.
P.D. Sí, Dios nos disciplina cuando caemos en desobediencia y pecado, pero como con el hijo pródigo, cuando regresamos de nuestro extravío y alejamiento, nuestro Padre celestial estará allí para recibirnos con los brazos abiertos.
