Being a Healthy Christian - 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 - July 10, 2026

2 Corinthians 10:3 - “For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.”

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 1 in 4 adults in the United States experienced a diagnosable mental health condition within the last 12 months. Struggling with mental health is something that is unfortunately all too common in our society, and even in the church. We live in a broken world that has been fractured by sin; pain and difficulty are an unavoidable outcome.

But praise God that we have something greater providing the foundation of our hope and joy. As followers of Christ, we have the comfort of knowing that the fleshly battles we are fighting are temporary. For though we walk in a temporary flesh that can be filled with anxiety and stress, we can know that the battle over the flesh has already been won. We can know that our eternal victory and relationship with Christ is secure. Knowing that God is sovereign over all things, and in control of every aspect of our life, should lower the volume of our stress.

Life is hard. Being a Christian is not a free pass from hardship and struggles that can affect our mental health. This is a topic that is much easier to write about, than to physically put into practice. But I would encourage you today to check your focus. Are you more focused on the flesh and the inevitable difficulties of the human life, or are you focused on Christ and seeing those worries through the lens of His sovereignty? Our flesh, this life, our struggles, have all been cleansed by Christ. Today I pray that we would lay down our flesh at the foot of the cross and be comforted in knowing that God is in control of every situation.

Colossians 3:2 - “Set your minds on things that are above, not on the things of this earth.”
