Being a Healthy Christian - 1 Thessalonians 5:12-24 - July 27, 2026

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 - “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He who calls you, who also will do it”.

Have you ever asked yourself: how is my spiritual health? The great news is that if you have a spiritual life, you already have the amazing gift of salvation! You have been justified by our Lord Jesus and therefore you have the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity living within you! Yet God’s amazing work is not done; it starts with our justification when Jesus gives spiritual life to the sinner whose faith is now in Christ, then the life-long process of sanctification as Christ prepares us to be set apart for God from the world, and it ends with the glorification of the believer, as the final removal of sin from the saints to stand faultless before God and eternally worship! Doesn’t that just give you goose bumps?

As believers, we are currently in the process of sanctification and that is what our spiritual life should be about; I love the way R.C Sproul explains it in his commentary: “The complete mending of all human imperfection is not only possible—it is certain. God is faithful and will accomplish it. This confident hope sustains believers’ present pursuit of holiness, despite ongoing struggles with temptation”. While it is important to be sincere and accept that we still struggle with temptation and even sin, verse 24 has an incredible promise and reminder: you and I are still a work in progress, a work God has promised to finish.

This promise should be a motivation to walk in faith and completely surrender your life to “He who calls you” as He is the only one who can truly separate you from sin to holiness. Rather than focusing on our current temptation, sin and affliction, let’s keep our focus on Him who will “sanctify you entirely.”

How has God sanctified your spiritual life?

¿Alguna vez te has preguntado: cómo está mi salud espiritual?
