Being a Healthy Christian - Micah 6:6-8 - July 29, 2026

"And what does the Lord require of you; to do justice, to radiate love and kindness, and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8

In Micah 6:1-8 we see a courtroom scene with God indicting His people, and His people asking what are the good works that they need to do, to get back into His good graces.  In verse 4 God reminds them of what He has done for them; " I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and ransomed you from the house of slavery.  I also sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam." Then they gave God a list  of some of the good works that they would be willing to offer;  animal sacrifices, rivers of oil, and even the lives of their first-born.  In verse 8 God tells them that it isn't good works that he desires from them, but rather inward character, ethical living, and for them to walk humbly before Him.

Let's move forward, and apply these same principles to 21st century believers. Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it crystal clear that good works have nothing to do with our attaining salvation, but God does desire good works from those of us in His family.

*Ephesians 2:10 "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works"

* Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Each of us has human talents that we can dedicate to our Savior, but each of us also has at least one spiritual gift, that is not to be used for our benefit, but for the common good of the church (1 Corinthians 12:7).  But all this being said,  God mostly desires the same things from us that he did from the believers in the time of Micah; inward character, ethical living, and to walk humbly before Him.  Here is an example of some New Testament men who radiated these characteristics: The apostles Peter, Paul, and John, and Timothy, and James, and Jude (Jesus' half brothers).  Each of these men's relationship with Jesus was one of a bondservant.  A bondservant is a person swallowed up in the will of another, and a slave to him/her by choice.  

What about you?  Do you love your Savior to the point of desiring to be His bondservant for the rest of your life?  If so, go to Him in prayer, and tell Him your desire.  Then ask Him to help you to fulfill that desire.

“¿Y qué requiere el Señor de ti? Hacer justicia, irradiar amor y bondad, y caminar humildemente con tu Dios”. Miqueas 6:8

En Miqueas 6:1–8 vemos una escena de tribunal, con Dios acusando a Su pueblo, y Su pueblo preguntando cuáles son las buenas obras que necesitan hacer para volver a estar en Su favor. En el versículo 4, Dios les recuerda lo que Él ha hecho por ellos: “Yo te hice subir de la tierra de Egipto, y te redimí de la casa de esclavitud. También envié delante de ti a Moisés, Aarón y Miriam”. Luego ellos le dieron a Dios una lista de algunas de las buenas obras que estarían dispuestos a ofrecer: sacrificios de animales, ríos de aceite e incluso la vida de sus primogénitos. En el versículo 8, Dios les dice que no son buenas obras lo que Él desea de ellos, sino más bien carácter interno, una vida ética y que caminen humildemente delante de Él.

Avancemos y apliquemos estos mismos principios a los creyentes del siglo XXI.

Efesios 2:8–9 deja muy claro que las buenas obras no tienen nada que ver con alcanzar nuestra salvación, pero Dios sí desea buenas obras de aquellos de nosotros que formamos parte de Su familia.

Efesios 2:10 – “Porque somos hechura Suya, creados en Cristo Jesús para buenas obras”.

Mateo 5:16 – “Así brille su luz delante de los hombres, para que vean sus buenas obras y glorifiquen a su Padre que está en los cielos”.

Cada uno de nosotros tiene talentos humanos que puede dedicar a nuestro Salvador, pero cada uno de nosotros también tiene al menos un don espiritual, que no debe ser usado para nuestro propio beneficio, sino para el bien común de la iglesia (1 Corintios 12:7). Pero, dicho todo esto, Dios desea principalmente las mismas cosas de nosotros que deseaba de los creyentes en los tiempos de Miqueas: carácter interno, una vida ética y caminar humildemente delante de Él.

Aquí hay algunos ejemplos de hombres del Nuevo Testamento que irradiaban estas características: los apóstoles Pedro, Pablo y Juan, además de Timoteo, Santiago y Judas, los medio hermanos de Jesús. La relación de cada uno de estos hombres con Jesús era la de un siervo por elección. Un siervo por elección es una persona absorbida por la voluntad de otro, y esclava de él o ella por decisión propia.

¿Y tú? ¿Amas a tu Salvador hasta el punto de desear ser Su siervo por elección por el resto de tu vida? Si es así, ve a Él en oración y dile tu deseo. Luego pídele que te ayude a cumplir ese deseo.
