The Book of Hebrews - Hebrews 11:8-22 - August 25, 2026

Hebrews 11:8-22 - "By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going … By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones."

I don't know about you, but these verses (Hebrews 11:8-22) inspire me. Walking through this "Hall of Faith" and remembering stories of believers who heard God's calling and stepped out in faith (cue Frozen 2's "Into the Unknown") gives me immense joy. Sometimes they knew the promise but not the route, and sometimes they weren't even given a promise, but were called to make a move and trust God. When Abraham was called to sacrifice Isaac, there was no promise that Isaac would be spared, or that an alternate sacrifice would be supplied.

There was only Abraham's trust that God had a plan. Pure trust. Pure faithfulness. And reflecting on these men and women who have shown great faithfulness can inspire us to do the same.

When I was walking my own path - not really not believing in God, but definitely not walking with Him- I was so busy trying to do everything on my own that I wasn't listening for God's direction, and I was definitely not taking advantage of opportunities to trust in God's plan or provision. What a different time that was. Perhaps you can reflect upon similar times in your own life.

As Christians being called to faithfulness, we are blessed with the knowledge that we have a loving God who has promised us a life with Him if we believe. With that perspective in mind, it changes how we respond to opportunities to trust or step out in faith. It doesn't necessarily mean it will be easy. In fact, it often isn't. There have been times when I have dug in my heels, telling God, "You've got the wrong girl!" or "I am not the right person for this - there has to be someone better." But God is patient and persistent in his calling, and I eventually succumb.

And, you know what? God is always right. He has never steered me wrong. He has worked in me when I didn't think I was qualified, and equipped me when I didn't feel equipped. And He will do the same for every one of us if we are faithful to Him.

My family and I have walked through many trials in our lives. There were times when I wasn't walking with Jesus, or early in my Christian journey, when there was much fear and anxiety on my part. As I matured in my faith and surrendered myself to Him, I still had occasional fears or worries (we're only human, after all), but I also had the peace of knowing that God was in charge and that whatever happened was part of His plan for us.

What a gift it is to receive that peace by surrendering to faithfulness and trusting in God's plans. And that overwhelming peace sounds so much better than the stress of trying to do it on our own.

Hebreos 11:8–22 – “Por la fe Abraham obedeció cuando fue llamado para salir hacia un lugar que había de recibir como herencia. Y salió sin saber a dónde iba… Por la fe José, al final de su vida, mencionó el éxodo de los israelitas y dio instrucciones acerca de sus huesos”.

No sé tú, pero estos versículos (Hebreos 11:8–22) me inspiran. Caminar por este “Salón de la Fe” y recordar historias de creyentes que escucharon el llamado de Dios y dieron un paso de fe —suena Into the Unknown de Frozen 2— me llena de inmenso gozo. A veces conocían la promesa, pero no la ruta; y a veces ni siquiera recibían una promesa específica, sino que eran llamados a moverse y confiar en Dios. Cuando Abraham fue llamado a sacrificar a Isaac, no había una promesa de que Isaac sería perdonado o de que se proveería un sacrificio alternativo.

Solo estaba la confianza de Abraham en que Dios tenía un plan. Confianza pura. Fidelidad pura. Y reflexionar en estos hombres y mujeres que han mostrado una gran fidelidad puede inspirarnos a hacer lo mismo.

Cuando yo estaba caminando mi propio camino —no exactamente sin creer en Dios, pero definitivamente sin caminar con Él— estaba tan ocupada tratando de hacer todo por mi cuenta que no estaba escuchando la dirección de Dios, y definitivamente no estaba aprovechando las oportunidades para confiar en el plan o la provisión de Dios. Qué etapa tan diferente fue esa. Quizá tú puedes reflexionar sobre tiempos similares en tu propia vida.

Como cristianos llamados a la fidelidad, somos bendecidos con el conocimiento de que tenemos un Dios amoroso que nos ha prometido una vida con Él si creemos. Con esa perspectiva en mente, cambia la manera en que respondemos a las oportunidades de confiar o dar pasos de fe. Eso no necesariamente significa que será fácil. De hecho, muchas veces no lo es. Ha habido momentos en los que he clavado los talones, diciéndole a Dios: “¡Te equivocaste de chica!” o “Yo no soy la persona correcta para esto; tiene que haber alguien mejor”. Pero Dios es paciente y persistente en Su llamado, y eventualmente cedo.

¿Y sabes qué? Dios siempre tiene razón. Nunca me ha guiado mal. Él ha obrado en mí cuando no pensaba que estaba calificada, y me ha equipado cuando no me sentía equipada. Y hará lo mismo por cada uno de nosotros si somos fieles a Él.

Mi familia y yo hemos atravesado muchas pruebas en nuestras vidas. Hubo momentos en los que yo no caminaba con Jesús, o estaba al inicio de mi caminar cristiano, cuando había mucho temor y ansiedad de mi parte. A medida que maduré en mi fe y me rendí a Él, todavía tuve temores o preocupaciones ocasionales —después de todo, solo somos humanos—, pero también tuve la paz de saber que Dios estaba a cargo y que cualquier cosa que sucediera era parte de Su plan para nosotros.

Qué regalo es recibir esa paz al rendirnos a la fidelidad y confiar en los planes de Dios. Y esa paz abrumadora suena mucho mejor que el estrés de intentar hacerlo todo por nuestra cuenta.
