The Book of Hebrews - Hebrews 11:32-40 - August 27, 2026

Toward the end of Hebrews 11, after listing countless men and women who trusted in God by faith, the author names a few more who lived by faith.  Starting in verse 32, he lists Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets, all of whom God used for his perfect plans. However, the author, for a change in this whole chapter in verses 35-36, lists how many of these people faced persecution yet remained faithful to God. In verse 38 it reads that “of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.” To the world, these people were seen as outcasts, but to God they were as priceless. 

These believers didn’t live to see God’s fulfillment of his promise of sending his Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world, and yet that did not shake their faith. Instead, they continued to trust God despite the hardship. Looking back to verse one of this chapter, the author writes, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” This list of people embodied what it means to have faith in the unseen. The final two verses tell us that they will reach their ultimate, completed state in Christ, along with all who have put their trust in God and have been saved. 

Application: The Christian life is not always easy. We all have trials to face (some more than others), but we can be assured that God is with us in those challenges. We can trust that God’s plan for our lives is perfect, as Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” These people were all willing to suffer for Christ, and my question for us all is: are we willing to do the same? 

Dear Heavenly Holy Father, thank you, Father, that we can trust that you are in control of everything. I pray that in the good times and the hard times, we could have faith like these people did and trust that even though we may not understand your plans, you are faithful to your promises. I pray all of these things in your Son’s name, I pray, Amen.

Hacia el final de Hebreos 11, después de enumerar a muchos hombres y mujeres que confiaron en Dios por fe, el autor menciona a algunos más que vivieron por fe. Comenzando en el versículo 32, menciona a Gedeón, Barac, Sansón, Jefté, David, Samuel y los profetas, a todos los cuales Dios usó para Sus planes perfectos. Sin embargo, el autor, como un cambio dentro de este capítulo, en los versículos 35–36 enumera cómo muchos de estos hombres y mujeres enfrentaron persecución y aun así permanecieron fieles a Dios. En el versículo 38 se lee: “de los cuales el mundo no era digno; andando errantes por desiertos y montañas, y por cuevas y cavernas de la tierra”. Para el mundo, estas personas eran vistas como marginadas, pero para Dios eran invaluables.

Estos creyentes no vivieron para ver el cumplimiento de la promesa de Dios de enviar a Su Hijo Jesús a morir por los pecados del mundo, y aun así eso no sacudió su fe. En cambio, continuaron confiando en Dios a pesar de la dificultad. Volviendo al versículo uno de este capítulo, el autor escribe: “Ahora bien, la fe es la certeza de lo que se espera, la convicción de lo que no se ve”. Esta lista de personas encarnó lo que significa tener fe en lo invisible. Los dos últimos versículos nos dicen que ellos alcanzarán su estado final y completo en Cristo, junto con todos los que han puesto su confianza en Dios y han sido salvos.

Aplicación: La vida cristiana no siempre es fácil. Todos tenemos pruebas que enfrentar —algunos más que otros—, pero podemos estar seguros de que Dios está con nosotros en esos desafíos. Podemos confiar en que el plan de Dios para nuestras vidas es perfecto, como dice Jeremías 29:11: “Porque Yo sé los planes que tengo para ustedes —declara el Señor—, planes de bienestar y no de calamidad, para darles un futuro y una esperanza”. Todas estas personas estuvieron dispuestas a sufrir por Cristo, y mi pregunta para todos nosotros es: ¿estamos dispuestos a hacer lo mismo?

Querido Padre celestial y santo, gracias, Padre, porque podemos confiar en que Tú tienes el control de todo. Oro para que en los buenos tiempos y en los tiempos difíciles podamos tener una fe como la de estas personas, y confiar en que, aunque no entendamos Tus planes, Tú eres fiel a Tus promesas. Oro todas estas cosas en el nombre de Tu Hijo. Amén.
