The Book of Hebrews - Hebrews 12:12-29 - August 29, 2026
Hebrews 12:6, 11 - "For those who the Lord loves He disciplines." "All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness."
The verses prior to our passage (Hebrew 12:4-11) describe the positives of God's discipline. In our passage (Verses 12-29) the author challenges his readers to accept God's discipline, and stay on the, "Straight and Narrow Path." He does this by highlighting sinful enticements that could draw them away; like those of Esau.
It has been 2,100 years since Hebrews was written, but the sins enticing the flesh are mostly the same. All through the New Testament we see God giving us guidelines and directives to help keep us on the straight and narrow path. Here are a few of the general directives from God's Word, which if followed, will help us keep our eyes on Jesus.
* John 14:15 "If you love me keep my commandments"
* I Corinthians 10:31 "Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
* Philippians 1:27A "Conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ."
* Galatians 5:16 "Walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh."
* Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice." (Paul wrote this from prison)
In verse 28 the author of Hebrews refers to the coming kingdom. It will consist of a new heaven, and new earth, and the capital city; the New Jerusalem. It will be the home base for the saints from the old testament, the new testament, the tribulation, and those saved during the Millennium. There will be plenty of room for all of us because the city is a cube that is 1,500 miles long wide and high (Revelation 21:16).
Take Away From This Devotion
The only way that we, as sinners, joined the Family of God, was through God's love and grace. Our salvation opened the door for His love and guidance while we were on earth, and for being with Him in the Holy City, the New Jerusalem FOREVER when we die. Because of this fabulous gift, we should be excited to joyfully follow God's directives listed in the commandment verses above. Read through them again, and then go to God in prayer, asking Him to help you joyfully keep them.

Hebreos 12:6, 11 — “Porque el Señor disciplina a los que ama.” “Es verdad que ninguna disciplina al presente parece ser causa de gozo, sino de tristeza; pero después da fruto apacible de justicia a los que en ella han sido ejercitados.”
Los versículos anteriores a nuestro pasaje (Hebreos 12:4-11) describen los aspectos positivos de la disciplina de Dios. En nuestro pasaje (versículos 12-29), el autor desafía a sus lectores a aceptar la disciplina de Dios y permanecer en el “camino recto y angosto”. Lo hace destacando las tentaciones pecaminosas que podrían alejarlos, como las que sedujeron a Esaú.
Han pasado 2,100 años desde que se escribió Hebreos, pero los pecados que tientan a la carne son prácticamente los mismos. A lo largo del Nuevo Testamento vemos a Dios dándonos pautas y directrices para ayudarnos a permanecer en el camino recto y angosto. Aquí hay algunas de las directrices generales de la Palabra de Dios que, si se siguen, nos ayudarán a mantener nuestros ojos en Jesús:
Juan 14:15 — “Si me amáis, guardad mis mandamientos.”
1 Corintios 10:31 — “Ya sea que comáis o bebáis, o que hagáis cualquier otra cosa, hacedlo todo para la gloria de Dios.”
Filipenses 1:27a — “Compórtense de una manera digna del evangelio de Cristo.”
Gálatas 5:16 — “Andad en el Espíritu, y no satisfaréis los deseos de la carne.”
Filipenses 4:4 — “Regocijaos en el Señor siempre. Otra vez digo: ¡Regocijaos!” (Pablo escribió esto desde la cárcel)
En el versículo 28, el autor de Hebreos se refiere al reino venidero. Este consistirá en un nuevo cielo, una nueva tierra y la ciudad capital: la Nueva Jerusalén. Será la base de hogar para los santos del Antiguo Testamento, del Nuevo Testamento, de la tribulación y de aquellos que sean salvos durante el Milenio. Habrá espacio suficiente para todos, porque la ciudad es un cubo de 1,500 millas de largo, ancho y alto (Apocalipsis 21:16).
Reflexión Final de Esta Devoción
La única manera en que nosotros, siendo pecadores, fuimos unidos a la Familia de Dios fue por medio de Su amor y gracia. Nuestra salvación abrió la puerta para recibir Su amor y guía mientras estamos en la tierra, y para estar con Él en la Ciudad Santa, la Nueva Jerusalén, POR SIEMPRE cuando muramos. Debido a este regalo tan maravilloso, deberíamos estar emocionados de seguir con gozo las directrices de Dios mencionadas en los versículos de mandamientos arriba. Léelas nuevamente y luego acércate a Dios en oración, pidiéndole que te ayude a guardarlas con alegría.
