The Book of Hebrews - Hebrews 13:20-25 - August 31, 2026

Hebrews 13:20-21 - Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.  Amen.

Throughout church history, Christians everywhere have employed benedictions in their corporate gatherings.  Simply put, a “benediction” is a spoken blessing of God’s favor towards and presence with those who belong to Him.  The most famous biblical example of a benediction is found in Numbers 6:24-26: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

As we close our time in the Book of Hebrews, we come across one of the most rich and profound benedictions ever penned on paper.  Let’s spend the next couple of minutes soaking in the depths of these two verses.

“Now may the God of peace…” - Our God is a God of peace; of shalom.  He is the one who calms the storms, quiets the waves, and stills our souls.  He is a God who invites us into the experience of His peace by our faith.  In Christ, we are united to the God of peace.

“...who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus…” - Not only is our God one of peace, but He is one of power.  He is the omnipotent creator and life-giver of all.  He has defeated the power of sin and death once and for all as He has risen His Son Jesus Christ from the dead by His might.

“... the great shepherd of the sheep…” - God has brought us into His fold.  He has called us by name.  He has led us beside still waters and among green pastures.  He has restored our souls, and He continually guards, keeps, protects, and provides for us – His wayward sheep.

“... by the blood of the eternal covenant…” - It was the atoning blood of Jesus Christ that was shed that has given us peace with God through the resurrection.  The cross and its effectual work for those who look on Him with faith is the foundation for all the blessings we receive.

“... equip you with everything good that you may do his will…” - The God of peace equips us with His Holy Spirit and the sword of the Spirit (Scripture) that we may live a life of faith unto Him.  Our own equipment will surely fail us, but He provides us with eternal and perfect equipment when we are united to Him.

“... working in us that which is pleasing in his sight…” - The goal of God’s work in us is that HE might be pleased and glorified.  If we confuse God’s goal as one of primarily making much of US in that He loves us, we miss His central aim - His own glory.  That is what we live for.

“...through Jesus Christ…” - Jesus has promised us that He will be with us to the end of the age.  He is walking with us and in us through everything that comes our way.

“... to whom be glory forever and ever.  Amen.” - Again I say - all of our lives is meant for His glory.  He is the one who made us, purchased us by His blood, promises to walk with us, and will dwell with us forever.  All glory be to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

As you re-read this benediction one more time, soak it in, and live for God’s glory.  As we’ve learned in the book of Hebrews - Jesus is better than anything this world has to offer.  And so, with that, I leave you with this:

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.  Amen.

El Libro de Hebreos – Hebreos 13:20-25 – 31 de agosto de 2026

Hebreos 13:20-21 – “Y el Dios de paz, que resucitó de entre los muertos a nuestro Señor Jesús, el gran pastor de las ovejas, por la sangre del pacto eterno, os haga aptos en toda obra buena para que hagáis su voluntad, haciendo Él en vosotros lo que es agradable delante de Él, por medio de Jesucristo; a quien sea la gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.”

A lo largo de la historia de la iglesia, los cristianos en todas partes han empleado bendiciones en sus reuniones congregacionales. En pocas palabras, una “bendición” es una declaración hablada del favor de Dios y de Su presencia hacia aquellos que le pertenecen. El ejemplo bíblico más famoso de una bendición se encuentra en Números 6:24-26: “El Señor te bendiga y te guarde; el Señor haga resplandecer su rostro sobre ti y tenga de ti misericordia; el Señor alce sobre ti su rostro y ponga en ti paz.”

Al cerrar nuestro tiempo en el Libro de Hebreos, nos encontramos con una de las bendiciones más ricas y profundas jamás escritas. Pasemos un par de minutos empapándonos en la profundidad de estos dos versículos.

“Ahora, el Dios de paz…” – Nuestro Dios es un Dios de paz; de shalom. Él es quien calma las tormentas, aquieta las olas y sosiega nuestras almas. Es un Dios que nos invita a experimentar Su paz por medio de la fe. En Cristo, estamos unidos al Dios de paz.

“…que resucitó de entre los muertos a nuestro Señor Jesús…” – Nuestro Dios no solo es un Dios de paz, sino también de poder. Él es el omnipotente creador y dador de vida. Ha derrotado el poder del pecado y de la muerte de una vez por todas al resucitar a Su Hijo Jesucristo por Su poder.

“…el gran pastor de las ovejas…” – Dios nos ha traído a Su redil. Nos ha llamado por nombre. Nos ha guiado junto a aguas de reposo y por verdes pastos. Ha restaurado nuestras almas, y continuamente guarda, protege, cuida y provee para nosotros, Sus ovejas descarriadas.

“…por la sangre del pacto eterno…” – Fue la sangre expiatoria de Jesucristo, derramada por nosotros, la que nos ha dado paz con Dios mediante la resurrección. La cruz y su obra eficaz para aquellos que miran a Él con fe es el fundamento de todas las bendiciones que recibimos.

“…os haga aptos en toda obra buena para que hagáis su voluntad…” – El Dios de paz nos equipa con Su Espíritu Santo y con la espada del Espíritu (la Escritura) para que vivamos una vida de fe para Él. Nuestro propio equipamiento fallará, pero Él nos provee de equipamiento perfecto y eterno cuando estamos unidos a Él.

“…haciendo Él en vosotros lo que es agradable delante de Él…” – El objetivo de la obra de Dios en nosotros es que Él sea agradado y glorificado. Si confundimos el objetivo de Dios como uno que se centra principalmente en hacernos grandes a nosotros porque nos ama, perdemos Su propósito central: Su propia gloria. Para eso vivimos.

“…por medio de Jesucristo…” – Jesús nos ha prometido que estará con nosotros hasta el fin del mundo. Él camina con nosotros y en nosotros a través de todo lo que enfrentamos.

“…a quien sea la gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.” – Una vez más digo: toda nuestra vida está destinada a Su gloria. Él es quien nos hizo, nos compró con Su sangre, promete caminar con nosotros y morará con nosotros para siempre. Toda gloria sea para Dios Padre, Dios Hijo y Dios Espíritu Santo.

Al releer esta bendición una vez más, empápate de ella y vive para la gloria de Dios. Como hemos aprendido en el libro de Hebreos: Jesús es mejor que cualquier cosa que este mundo pueda ofrecer. Y con eso, te dejo con lo siguiente:
