The Book of Hebrews - Hebrews 3:1-6 - August 6, 2026

Hebrews is full of Old Testament allusions that would have clicked instantly with the Jews. Most of the time we need to catch up!

As we read through Hebrews we realize the author is trying to get the Jews to shift from their Old Testament identity as law followers with shared history and traditions, to a New Testament identity in Christ. We may not completely understand the struggles the Jews faced to shift their identity, but we can certainly relate to the struggle to shift our own identity -from abused, neglected, abandoned, or self-sufficient and in control. My mother's daughter, my Father's son. All these have to be shifted to an identity IN CHRIST. I only have a short devotion, so let me just give you some things to think about.

Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers/sharers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;

Holy - set apart for God. In other words NOT like the world. Sticking out like Shadrak, Meshak and Abednego in front of that statue! (Daniel 3)

Brethren: part of this amazing thing that is called the Body and the Bride. Family.

Sharing in this heavenly calling. Just THINK of all the goodness, grace, forgiveness and mercy that Scripture reveals God invites us into! A lifetime of learning only scratches the surface!

This is us. This is fact. This is Who We Are. Our challenge is to live like we say we believe!

So how do we hold this position? Consider Jesus. “katanoeo”-to perceive, remark, observe, understand, consider attentively. Fix one's eyes and mind upon. (Um, maybe you didn't notice, but that does not include just showing up for church on Sunday, or reading what somebody else learned about Jesus. Just saying.) I need to open my Bible every day, learn to hear God’s voice in His word and grow in grace and knowledge of Him who loves me and paid for my redemption. Only this way can I learn to shift my identity from “In Me” to “In Christ”.

For the Jews, Moses was their go-to guy to follow. Who did/do you follow? They might be great role models, Moses was, but Jesus is better.

As you read Hebrews this month, take the time to look up those words you don't immediately understand. Take the time to really evaluate how you identify yourself, and how God identifies/sees you. Take the time to consider Jesus. There might be a few things that need realigning.

Heb.3:6…WE ARE God's house. What a blessed privilege/responsability!  So let's keep/hold fast our courage and confident hope in Jesus Christ firm until the end.

Hebreos está lleno de alusiones al Antiguo Testamento que los judíos habrían entendido al instante. ¡La mayoría de las veces nosotros tenemos que ponernos al día!

Al leer Hebreos, nos damos cuenta de que el autor está tratando de ayudar a los judíos a cambiar de su identidad del Antiguo Testamento, como seguidores de la ley con una historia y tradiciones compartidas, a una identidad del Nuevo Testamento en Cristo.

Tal vez no entendamos completamente las luchas que enfrentaron los judíos al cambiar su identidad, pero ciertamente podemos relacionarnos con la lucha de cambiar nuestra propia identidad: de abusados, descuidados, abandonados, o autosuficientes y en control. La hija de mi madre, el hijo de mi padre. Todo esto tiene que ser cambiado a una identidad EN CRISTO. Solo tengo un devocional corto, así que déjame darte algunas cosas en qué pensar.

Hebreos 3:1 – Por tanto, hermanos santos, participantes de un llamamiento celestial, consideren a Jesús, el Apóstol y Sumo Sacerdote de nuestra confesión.

Santos – Apartados para Dios. En otras palabras, NO como el mundo. Destacándose como Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-nego frente a aquella estatua (Daniel 3).

Hermanos – Parte de esta cosa maravillosa llamada el Cuerpo y la Novia. Familia.

Compartiendo este llamamiento celestial. ¡Solo PIENSA en toda la bondad, gracia, perdón y misericordia que la Escritura revela que Dios nos invita a recibir! Una vida entera de aprendizaje apenas rasca la superficie.

Esto somos nosotros. Esto es un hecho. Esto es quienes somos. ¡Nuestro desafío es vivir como decimos que creemos!

Entonces, ¿cómo mantenemos esta posición? Considera a Jesús. Katanoeo: percibir, notar, observar, entender, considerar atentamente. Fijar los ojos y la mente en algo. Bueno, tal vez no lo notaste, pero eso no incluye simplemente presentarse a la iglesia el domingo, o leer lo que alguien más aprendió acerca de Jesús. Solo digo. Necesito abrir mi Biblia todos los días, aprender a escuchar la voz de Dios en Su Palabra y crecer en la gracia y el conocimiento de Aquel que me ama y pagó por mi redención. Solo de esta manera puedo aprender a cambiar mi identidad de “en mí” a “en Cristo”.

Para los judíos, Moisés era su persona principal a seguir. ¿A quién seguías o sigues tú? Pueden ser grandes modelos a seguir; Moisés lo fue. Pero Jesús es mejor.

Mientras lees Hebreos este mes, toma el tiempo para buscar aquellas palabras que no entiendes de inmediato. Toma el tiempo para evaluar realmente cómo te identificas a ti mismo y cómo Dios te identifica y te ve. Toma el tiempo para considerar a Jesús. Puede que haya algunas cosas que necesiten ser realineadas.

Hebreos 3:6 – Nosotros somos la casa de Dios. ¡Qué privilegio y responsabilidad tan bendecidos! Así que mantengamos firme nuestra valentía y nuestra esperanza confiada en Jesucristo hasta el final.
