The Gospel of Luke - Luke 12 - September 15, 2025 

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” [Luke 12:34] 

One of the most wonderful and terrifying truths of the Word of God is that it reveals who we truly are. Chapter 12 is theologically dense and covers many important topics, though the main objective is to make us meditate on this question: where is our heart? 

As you read chapter 12, ask yourself these questions: 

- Does my heart truly seek the Lord, or does it wear a mask of external religiosity? 

- Does my heart fear the Lord? 

- Does my heart seek the treasures of heaven or of this earth? 

- Is my heart anxious about the present, or does it trust the Lord to provide? 

- Is my heart ready to meet Jesus? 

We start chapter 12 with an interesting scenario, people trampling over one another to hear Jesus; how would Jesus have felt about how people were acting to get near Him? Is it pleasing to Jesus to kick, push, and shove my brother aside to hear Him? What does that reveal about my heart if I act that way? 

Jesus starts the lesson to His disciples with a warning about the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. The word “hypocrite” in Greek means one who “acted” a part and assumed a “mask.” Jesus was calling out the Pharisees for being externally religious, but their hearts were not towards pleasing God. For them, serving God was a “part” they were playing rather than a true way of life, and Jesus warned the disciples not to seek to please them or to be hypocrites like them. Is my heart’s desire to please the Lord or to please myself by putting on the mask of the religious Christian? 

This chapter invites us to reflect on our true intentions when we seek the Lord, not to discourage us but to purify us as we come closer to Him. We cannot deceive Him as He knows the true intentions of our hearts, and all will be revealed one day. 

So, where does your heart lie?

El Evangelio de Lucas - Lucas 12 - 15 de septiembre de 2025 

“Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón.” (Lucas 12:34) 

Una de las verdades más maravillosas y aterradoras de la Palabra de Dios es que revela quiénes somos realmente. El capítulo 12 es teológicamente denso y cubre muchos temas importantes, aunque el objetivo principal es hacernos meditar sobre esta pregunta: ¿dónde está nuestro corazón? 

Al leer el Capitulo 12, haste estas preguntas: 

- ¿Mi corazón busca verdaderamente al Señor, o lleva una máscara de 

religiosidad externa? 

- ¿Teme mi corazón al Señor? 

- ¿Busca mi corazón los tesoros del cielo o de esta tierra? 

- ¿Está mi corazón ansioso por el presente o confía en que el Señor proveerá? 

- ¿Está mi corazón listo para encontrarse con Jesús? 

Comenzamos el capítulo 12 con un escenario interesante, personas atropellándose unas a otras para ir a escuchar a Jesús; ¿cómo se habría sentido Jesús acerca de cómo actuaba la gente para acercarse a Él? ¿Le agrada a Jesús que una persona patee, empuje a su hermano a un lado para escucharlo a El? ¿Qué revela eso sobre mi corazón si actúo de esa manera? 

Jesús comienza la lección a sus discípulos con una advertencia sobre la hipocresía de los fariseos. La palabra “hipócrita” en griego significa alguien que “actuó” un papel y asumió una “máscara".” Jesús estaba denunciando a los fariseos por ser externamente religiosos, pero su corazón no estaba en buscando agradar a Dios. Para ellos, servir a Dios era un “papel” que estaban desempeñando en lugar de una verdadera forma de vida, y Jesús advirtió a los discípulos que no buscaran complacerlos ni ser hipócritas como ellos. ¿Es el deseo de mi corazón agradar al Señor o complacerme a mí mismo poniéndome la máscara del cristiano religioso.

Este capítulo nos invita a reflexionar sobre nuestras verdaderas intenciones cuando buscamos al Señor, no para desanimarnos sino para purificarnos a medida que nos acercamos a Él. No podemos engañarlo ya que Él conoce las verdaderas intenciones de nuestro corazón, y todo se revelará algún día. 

Entonces, ¿dónde está tu corazón?
