Icebreaker Questions

1. What’s one “ordinary” skill or ability you have that God has used (or could use) in a way you didn’t expect? How did that opportunity come about?

2. Think back to when you were younger: what did you imagine God might use you to do someday? How has that changed over time?

Diving Deeper

1. Read Romans 15:14-16.  Paul emphasizes grace—not credentials—as the source of his authority. How does this shape our understanding of ministry in the church?

2. Read Romans 15:17-19.  Paul “boasts” only in what Christ has accomplished through him, and says he preaches “by word and deed” (v. 18). Why are both necessary in sharing the gospel? What happens if we focus on one and neglect the other?

3. Read Romans 15:20-21.  Paul speaks of his ambition to preach where Christ is not known. What do these verses reveal about Paul’s sense of calling and mission? How might this challenge our comfort zones?

Life Application

1. Where has God already placed you—in your family, workplace, church, or community—that could be your current “mission field”? What’s one small step you could take there this week?

2. Paul lived with a “holy ambition” to reach the unreached. What would “holy ambition” look like in your current stage of life?  Pray that God would grow in your heart an ambition that is holy.
