Sermon Study Questions 4.13.25
My Story
1. Have you ever attempted something, failed, and looked back only to realize that what you attempted was completely impossible? Why is having realistic expectations important in the Christian life relating to our holiness?
2. Do you remember the time you first came to the realization that you were a sinner? What brought you to that realization? What was your first reaction to that revelation, and how did you respond?
Going Deeper
1. Read Romans 3:1-8. What are some of the objections that Paul dispels in this passage? What is the main point that he is getting at in these verses?
2. Read Romans 3:9-20. How does this passage describe human nature? Does this line up with the world’s view of human nature? Why is it important to understand the bad news of sin?
3. Read Romans 3:21-31. How are we, hopeless sinners, to find any hope in Christ? How does Jesus’s death on the cross reconcile God’s righteous judgment and His mercy?
Taking it Home
1. Why do you think it is that so many people around the world are convinced that they are “good enough” on their own? If you were to have a conversation with someone who held that view and rejected their need for a Savior, how would you lovingly respond in truth?
2. For someone who’s been a Christian for many years—or even decades—is it still important to wrestle with the reality of their sinfulness? If so, why isn’t it enough to simply move on, rest confidently in salvation, and no longer reflect on the depth of our brokenness before Christ?
