My Story  

1. Have you ever received a gift you felt like you didn’t deserve? How did it make you feel?  

2. How would you describe a “works-based-salvation” mindset? How does this differ from the biblical view of salvation? Have you ever found yourself slipping back into a “works-based” mentality?  

Going Deeper  

1. Read Romans 4:1-8. What is the basis of Abraham’s salvation? Is it his works, or his faith? Why is this truth so central to the Christian religion?  

2. Read Romans 4:9-17. What was the purpose of circumcision for God’s people? How should we view the relationship between faith and the commands of Scripture? In other words, how do faith and good works go together, or do they?  

3. Read Romans 4:18-25. How does the miraculous power of God give us confidence to believe in Him for salvation? What makes Jesus so unique that believing in Him alone would save us? 

Taking it Home  

1. In what areas of your life are you tempted to rely on performance or rules rather than faith and grace? 

 2. If someone asked you how to become right with God, how would you explain it in your own words—based on what you learned from Romans 4?
