Sermon Study Questions 5.18.25
My Story
1. Have you ever had something in your life that was very difficult to get rid of even though you knew you needed to? For example, perhaps a bad habit. How did you feel afterwards?
2. Spend some time examining your own heart. Would you say that there is a part of you that enjoys sin? If so, how have you battled with that?
Diving Deeper
1. Read Romans 6:5-11. What does it mean that "our old self was crucified?" What is something from your "old self" that you've had a hard time killing?
2. Read Romans 6:12-14. What is the connection between your salvation and your ability to "present yourselves to God... as instruments of righteousness?" What is an instrument of righteousness?
3. Read Romans 6:15-23. Describe the difference between being a slave to sin and a slave to righteousness? How does v.23 answer the problem of sin in our lives?
Taking it Home
1. This week, choose one area of your "old life" that still pops its head up and spend time praying and surrendering that area to God. Confess and repent of the indwelling sin, and trust that God desires to make you an instrument of righteousness.
2. How can you use the wonderful truths of Romans 6 to comfort a fellow brother or sister in Christ? Who is on your mind? How about using this chapter to preach the Gospel to a nonbeliever? Who is on your mind? Make a plan, and spread the word.
