Sermon Study Questions 6.8.25

My Story

1. The truth that there is no condemnation for Christians is a startling reality for many.  Personally, do you find it hard to believe that God would not judge you for all the wrong that you have done?  Do you ever struggle with fear that God will still condemn you?

2. What are some ways you try to “earn” God’s love, even though you’re already fully accepted in Christ?

Diving Deeper

Read Romans 8:1-4.  How is it possible that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus?  In other words, what has Jesus done for us to make that a reality?

Read Romans 8:5-11.  How would you describe the battle between the Holy Spirit and our flesh?  What is the relationship between our minds and our spiritual health?

Read Romans 8:12-17.  What does this passage teach us about our identity in Christ?  How does this make you feel, and how does it affect your daily life?

Taking it Home

1. Romans 8:6 says, "For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace."  Would you say that your mind is more often set on the flesh or the Spirit?  What are some practical ways you can discipline your mind to be set on the Spirit in the day to day grind of life?

2. How does your life change as a result of being declared a loved, adopted, accepted child of God?  What are the implications of that identity as you live out your Christian faith?  How can you take that truth and use it to encourage others in their Christian walks?
