Sermon Study Questions 8.30.26

Icebreaker Question
1. When you were growing up, who was someone whose presence immediately made you feel safe, calm, or secure? What was it about their presence that had that effect on you?
Diving Deeper
1. Read Philippians 4:4-5. Paul commands believers to “rejoice in the Lord always” and then reminds them that “the Lord is at hand.” How does the reminder connect to the command? Why do you think remembering Christ's nearness helps us maintain joy even when circumstances are difficult?
2. Read Philippians 4:6 alongside Matthew 6:25-34 and 1 Peter 5:7. What do these passages teach us about the relationship between worry and prayer? Why is it often easier to worry about something than to surrender it to God?
3. Read Philippians 4:7 and Isaiah 26:3. Paul says God's peace will “guard” our hearts and minds. What does that image communicate about the kind of peace God offers? Read John 14:27; how is God's peace different from the peace the world seeks or promises?
Life Application
1. This week, what is one specific worry, fear, or burden that you need to move from your hands into God’s hands? What would it look like to replace anxiety with intentional prayer, thanksgiving, and trust in Christ's nearness over the next seven days?
2. End your family or small group discussion by praying Philippians 4:6-7 over one another, asking God to guard each heart and mind with his peace.
