Creation & Foundations - Genesis 7:1-24 - October 13, 2025

 Noah obeyed God. It was time to load all of the animals into the ark before the flood. The logistics of this are daunting. I suppose even those in his family were scratching their heads. At times, we don’t read the Bible slowly enough to picture what the actual event looked like.

 So, there could have been divine intervention to load the animals in a manageable order. But then, maybe not. When was the last time Noah gathered two giraffes, two lions, and two tabby cats into a large boat? It had never been done before, just as there had never been enough rain falling from the sky to cover all the earth. It takes an hour to get my domesticated horse into a horse trailer – only if he agrees to comply and there are enough carrots and apples in the feed bag. For Noah, that would have been just one of the necessary two. Noah had to put two of each animal into the ark. Can you imagine the time and patience needed to get that done?

 Because our God is good, I trust that Noah received divine help to get everything loaded. My point is that when God tells us to do something we have never done or seen done before, our immediate response should be “Yes, I will.” Our first course would be to make lists, plan the time, and text friends who might be helpful. Maybe Noah did that. But, as the head of the only family to survive the annihilation of a world flood, I can see Noah fall to his knees in prayer. He knew to ask for heavenly help immediately.

 When God asks us to balance our budget or be kinder to our spouse, or whatever we have never done before, do we first fall to our knees and humbly ask him to be with us and show us how? Or do we first go to Google for the “how to”? When we succeed in failing in our own effort, do we THEN lift our eyes to heaven? Does it occur to us to ask for forgiveness for not going to God FIRST before any other source? Does it occur to us that our gracious Heavenly Father is grieved when we plan our course without him?

 If we think that we can do what God has asked of us in our own strength and talent and history, as a child of God Almighty, it is time to think again. ”With man it is impossible. But not with God. For all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27

 Noé obedeció a Dios. Era hora de cargar todos los animales en el arca antes del diluvio. La logística de esto es abrumadora. Supongo que incluso los miembros de su familia se rascaban la cabeza. A veces, no leemos la Biblia con la suficiente lentitud como para imaginar cómo fue realmente el acontecimiento.

 Por lo tanto, podría haber habido una intervención divina para cargar a los animales en un orden manejable. Pero tal vez no. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que Noé reunió a dos jirafas, dos leones y dos gatos atigrados en un barco grande? Nunca antes se había hecho, al igual que nunca había caído suficiente lluvia del cielo para cubrir toda la tierra. Tardo una hora en meter a mi caballo domesticado en un remolque para caballos, y eso solo si él accede a obedecer y hay suficientes zanahorias y manzanas en la bolsa de comida. Para Noé, eso habría sido solo uno de los dos requisitos necesarios. Noé tenía que meter dos ejemplares de cada animal en el arca. ¿Te imaginas el tiempo y la paciencia que se necesitaban para hacerlo?

 Como nuestro Dios es bueno, confío en que Noé recibió ayuda divina para cargarlo todo. Lo que quiero decir es que cuando Dios nos dice que hagamos algo que nunca hemos hecho ni visto hacer antes, nuestra respuesta inmediata debería ser «Sí, lo haré». Lo primero que haríamos sería hacer listas, planificar el tiempo y enviar mensajes de texto a amigos que podrían sernos útiles. Quizás Noé hizo eso. Pero, como cabeza de la única familia que sobrevivió a la aniquilación de un diluvio universal, puedo imaginar a Noé cayendo de rodillas en oración. Sabía que debía pedir ayuda celestial de inmediato.

 Cuando Dios nos pide que equilibremos nuestro presupuesto o que seamos más amables con nuestro cónyuge, o cualquier otra cosa que nunca hayamos hecho antes, ¿nos arrodillamos primero y le pedimos humildemente que esté con nosotros y nos muestre cómo hacerlo? ¿O primero buscamos en Google «cómo hacerlo»? Cuando fracasamos en nuestro propio esfuerzo, ¿entonces levantamos los ojos al cielo? ¿Se nos ocurre pedir perdón por no acudir a Dios PRIMERO antes que a cualquier otra fuente? ¿Se nos ocurre que nuestro misericordioso Padre Celestial se entristece cuando planificamos nuestro camino sin él?

 Si pensamos que podemos hacer lo que Dios nos ha pedido con nuestras propias fuerzas, talento e historia, como hijos del Dios Todopoderoso, es hora de reconsiderarlo. «Para los hombres es imposible, pero no para Dios, porque para Dios todo es posible». Marcos 10:27
