Creation & Foundations - Genesis 3 (Review) - October 21, 2025

As we continue to dive deeper into Scripture to learn and grow in our faith, we must also look at and remember how it all began and where the foundations of our faith come from.

 Chapter 3 of Genesis describes the fall of humanity into sin. It opens up by telling us that the ‘serpent (Satan) was crafty above all else’ and he is talking to Eve and questioning everything God had told and commanded Adam and Eve. Satan uses manipulation, pride, and the free will of humans to call into question the goodness and correctness of God’s words and commands. Adam and Eve had free rein to eat from all of the rest of the trees in the garden except for one, and yet, the curiosity of that one, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and what knowledge that would give them, got the better of them. Satan made them think that God was withholding good things from them, even though he was, in reality, protecting them. Sure enough, they believed Satan enough to eat of the fruit and feel the full weight of sin, which they had not known before. As a result of that disobedience and their sin, they lost a closeness, an intimacy with God, as they used to walk in the garden with Him. What a devastating loss that must have been.

 How often does that happen to us? The things of the world make us question the goodness and correctness of God and His Word; we think He is withholding good things from us, or that maybe that ‘one thing’ isn’t actually so bad for us after all, right? Believing that God is good means believing that His Word is good and true and that all He asks of us is for our good and for His glory.

 There are a lot of voices bombarding us from every side in this day and age, and it can be overwhelming and confusing to navigate, but as we walk with God, we will recognize His voice better, hear it more clearly, and our hearts will be aligned more closely with His.

 God, help us to recognize your voice and truth above the clamor of the world, that when things or people or situations try to pull us away from you, you hold us close to yourself. We thank you for your faithfulness and goodness in all things, even when we question, even when we struggle, you never waver and you never pull away. We love you, Lord, and we are so thankful for who you are and how you love us.

 A medida que continuamos profundizando en las Escrituras para aprender y crecer en nuestra fe, también debemos mirar y recordar cómo comenzó todo y de dónde provienen los fundamentos de nuestra fe.

 El capítulo 3 del Génesis describe la caída de la humanidad en el pecado. Comienza diciéndonos que «la serpiente (Satanás) era más astuta que todos los demás» y que está hablando con Eva y cuestionando todo lo que Dios había dicho y ordenado a Adán y Eva. Satanás utiliza la manipulación, el orgullo y el libre albedrío de los seres humanos para poner en duda la bondad y la corrección de las palabras y los mandamientos de Dios. Adán y Eva tenían libertad para comer de todos los demás árboles del jardín, excepto de uno, y sin embargo, la curiosidad por ese árbol, el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal, y el conocimiento que les proporcionaría, pudo más que ellos. Satanás les hizo creer que Dios les estaba negando cosas buenas, cuando en realidad los estaba protegiendo. Efectivamente, creyeron lo suficiente en Satanás como para comer del fruto y sentir todo el peso del pecado, que antes no conocían. Como resultado de esa desobediencia y de su pecado, perdieron la cercanía y la intimidad con Dios, ya que antes solían pasear por el jardín con Él. Qué pérdida tan devastadora debió de ser.

 ¿Cuántas veces nos pasa eso a nosotros? Las cosas del mundo nos hacen cuestionar la bondad y la rectitud de Dios y Su Palabra; pensamos que nos está privando de cosas buenas, o que tal vez «esa cosa» no es tan mala para nosotros después de todo, ¿verdad? Creer que Dios es bueno significa creer que Su Palabra es buena y verdadera y que todo lo que nos pide es para nuestro bien y para Su gloria.

 Hay muchas voces que nos bombardean por todos lados en estos tiempos, y puede ser abrumador y confuso navegar por ellas, pero a medida que caminamos con Dios, reconoceremos mejor Su voz, la escucharemos con más claridad y nuestros corazones se alinearán más estrechamente con el Suyo.

 Dios, ayúdanos a reconocer tu voz y tu verdad por encima del clamor del mundo, para que cuando las cosas, las personas o las situaciones intenten alejarnos de ti, nos mantengas cerca de ti. Te damos gracias por tu fidelidad y bondad en todas las cosas, incluso cuando cuestionamos, incluso cuando luchamos, nunca vacilas y nunca te alejas. Te amamos, Señor, y estamos muy agradecidos por quién eres y cómo nos amas.
