Creation & Foundations - Genesis 1-11 (Review) - October 31, 2025

Genesis 9:16 - When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.

 What a month it has been.  I feel as though I’ve spent more time over the past 31 days in Genesis 1-11 than ever before.  I’m so grateful to all the amazing writers who have encouraged us over the past month by pointing us to the truth of God’s Word.  Studying the creation of the world, the fall of man, the wrath and mercy of God, and so much more ought to feed our souls - I hope it has yours.

 At the start of this month, I wanted to set out to explore three key themes with all of you:  (1) God as our Creator & Judge, (2) Humanity’s Sin & God’s Grace, and (3) God as Promise-Maker & Redeemer.  One last time, let’s meditate on these wonderful themes.

 1 - God as our Creator & Judge

 The Bible begins with a bang (and no, I’m not referring to the ‘Big Bang’).  Rather, I’m referring to the Word of the Lord going forth and bringing life and animating creation.  Without God as our Creator, there would be nothing.  We are utterly dependent on God as we are His creatures.  He has spoken to us and revealed Himself to us clearly through His creation.  Psalm 19:1 says that the heavens declare the glory of God.  As we study creation daily, our eyes are meant to be drawn upward in worship.  

 God is also our Judge.  Because He is the all-wise, all-powerful Creator, He has every right to judge us according to His Will.  This implies that we cannot decide what acceptable worship of God is - He has laid out the terms of worship in His Word.  

 2 - Humanity’s Sin & God’s Grace

 This is a vast theme which is present on every page of Scripture, but has its foundation in these first eleven chapters.  The fall of mankind and the spiral downward into evil happened fast.  Adam, as our representative head, sinned, and thus, we all sinned (Romans 5:12-21 for further study).  Not only do we follow in the footsteps of our ancestors by consciously choosing sin, but we also have an inherent sin problem that touches every aspect of our being.  Theologians call this Total Depravity.  Apart from God’s working of grace, we are utterly hopeless and lost for eternity.  But praise be to God for Christ-He has shown us amazing grace!  God showed grace to Adam and Noah, and He shows grace to us.  We have the privilege of living on this side of the cross, being able to look back and see God’s perfect substitute-His only Son-living, dying, and rising for us.  What grace!

 3 - God as Promise-Maker & Redeemer

 This is an expansion of the previous theme and focuses on God’s promises.  We saw in Genesis 3:15 (the protoevangelium) God’s first promise to redeem mankind from themselves.  However, God’s promises are not just limited to this - rather, the expanse of His promises is seen throughout the whole counsel of God in Scripture.  

 I want to encourage you to spend time meditating on God's promises.  As we realize that God is faithful to keep His promises and see all that He has for us, we can’t help but worship.  Take this verse, for example:

 “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

 Praise God for His creation and the foundation that all of us have due to His Word.  Keep studying the Bible - you will be blessed as you see more and more of God’s character in it.

 Génesis 9:16 - Cuando el arco aparezca en las nubes, lo veré y recordaré el pacto eterno entre Dios y todos los seres vivos de toda carne que hay sobre la tierra.

 ¡Qué mes tan intenso!  Siento que he pasado más tiempo que nunca en los últimos 31 días en Génesis 1-11. Estoy muy agradecido a todos los increíbles escritores que nos han animado durante el último mes señalándonos la verdad de la Palabra de Dios. Estudiar la creación del mundo, la caída del hombre, la ira y la misericordia de Dios, y mucho más, debería alimentar nuestras almas; espero que haya alimentado la suya.

A principios de este mes, quería explorar con todos ustedes tres temas clave: (1) Dios como nuestro Creador y Juez, (2) El pecado de la humanidad y la gracia de Dios, y (3) Dios como Prometedor y Redentor. Por última vez, meditemos sobre estos maravillosos temas.

 1 - Dios como nuestro Creador y Juez

 La Biblia comienza con una explosión (y no, no me refiero al «Big Bang»).  Me refiero más bien a la Palabra del Señor que sale y da vida y anima la creación.  Sin Dios como nuestro Creador, no habría nada. Dependemos totalmente de Dios, ya que somos Sus criaturas. Él nos ha hablado y se nos ha revelado claramente a través de Su creación. El Salmo 19:1 dice que los cielos proclaman la gloria de Dios. Al estudiar la creación diariamente, nuestros ojos deben elevarse en adoración. 

 Dios también es nuestro Juez.  Como Él es el Creador omnisciente y omnipotente, tiene todo el derecho de juzgarnos según Su voluntad. Esto implica que no podemos decidir qué es una adoración aceptable a Dios, ya que Él ha establecido los términos de la adoración en Su Palabra. 

 2 - El pecado de la humanidad y la gracia de Dios

 Este es un tema muy amplio que está presente en cada página de las Escrituras, pero que tiene su fundamento en estos primeros once capítulos.  La caída de la humanidad y la espiral descendente hacia el mal ocurrieron rápidamente. Adán, como nuestro representante, pecó y, por lo tanto, todos pecamos (Romanos 5:12-21 para un estudio más detallado). No solo seguimos los pasos de nuestros antepasados al elegir conscientemente el pecado, sino que también tenemos un problema inherente de pecado que afecta todos los aspectos de nuestro ser. Los teólogos llaman a esto «depravación total».  Aparte de la obra de la gracia de Dios, estamos completamente desesperados y perdidos para la eternidad. Pero alabado sea Dios por Cristo, ¡que nos ha mostrado una gracia asombrosa! Dios mostró su gracia a Adán y a Noé, y nos muestra su gracia a nosotros. Tenemos el privilegio de vivir en este lado de la cruz, pudiendo mirar atrás y ver al sustituto perfecto de Dios, su único Hijo, viviendo, muriendo y resucitando por nosotros. ¡Qué gracia!

 3 - Dios como promesa y redentor

 Esta es una ampliación del tema anterior y se centra en las promesas de Dios.  Vimos en Génesis 3:15 (el protoevangelio) la primera promesa de Dios de redimir a la humanidad de sí misma.  Sin embargo, las promesas de Dios no se limitan solo a esto, sino que la amplitud de sus promesas se ve en todo el consejo de Dios en las Escrituras.

 Quiero animarte a que dediques tiempo a meditar en las promesas de Dios. Cuando nos damos cuenta de que Dios es fiel en cumplir Sus promesas y vemos todo lo que tiene para nosotros, no podemos evitar adorarlo. Tomemos este versículo, por ejemplo:

 «El que no escatimó ni a su propio Hijo, sino que lo entregó por todos nosotros, ¿cómo no nos dará también con él todas las cosas?» (Romanos 8:32).

 Alabemos a Dios por su creación y por el fundamento que todos tenemos gracias a su Palabra. Sigan estudiando la Biblia: serán bendecidos al ver cada vez más el carácter de Dios en ella.
