Creation & Foundations - Genesis 1:24-31 - October 3, 2025

In Jesus’ name, we come before You, God, thank You that You made me in Your image. Help me to find my worth in You and to live with confidence in Your design of how You created me. Amen.

 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27

 How many iPhones do you think have been sold since they first came out? If you guessed 3 billion, you would be correct! In 2007, Apple released the very first iPhone. At first, people didn’t know what to think of the phone — it didn’t have a keyboard, and was just a large touchscreen with a single button on the front. But what made it revolutionary wasn’t only how it looked, but the foundation built into it. The iPhone was designed to grow, update, and handle apps that hadn’t even been imagined yet. The foundation of the iPhone determined how we would come to use it in the future.

 Genesis 1 shows us our foundation as people. On the sixth day of creation, after filling the skies with birds, the seas with fish, and the land with animals, God made something completely unique and different from everything else He created up to that point: human beings. And He did so in a way unlike anything else. We were created “in His image”, and then He breathed life into us.

 That means you are not an accident, an afterthought, or an evolutionary byproduct. You were made intentionally, with value, dignity, and purpose. Your worth doesn’t come from what you do, what you own, or how others see you. It comes from the fact that the Creator of the universe stamped His image on you Himself.

Just like the iPhone’s foundation made it capable of things the world couldn’t see yet, your foundation in God means He built into you more than you realize. You were created to reflect His attributes to the world around you. To reflect His love, creativity, justice, grace, compassion, and mercy, to name a few. And not only that, but every person you meet — from the youngest child to the oldest grandparent — bears that same image.

 Our culture says you have to earn your value. God says you already have it, for He created you as His image bearer and declared that His creation of you is “very good.” Our world says your worth changes with circumstances. God says your worth is anchored in His image, and nothing can take that away.

 So whether you’re 15 and figuring out who you are, or 95 and reflecting on a lifetime — remember where your true foundation lies. You are God’s creation. You are His image-bearer. Your foundation is God’s image — and that never changes.

 Being made in God’s image is not only about knowing our worth and value — it’s about living it out. Because Jesus has redeemed us, we are called to grow into His likeness day by day, treating others — our families, classmates, coworkers, and neighbors — as fellow image-bearers with love and compassion. The way we treat people matters deeply: when you show kindness, you honor God’s image in them while reflecting His image in you; when you forgive, you mirror His character; when you show love, grace, and compassion, you both honor a fellow image-bearer and live into the image He imprinted on you. And as we live this way, God will open doors for us to share the good news, so that others can discover the God who created them, loves them, and longs for them to reflect His image in relationship with Him.

 Father, thank You that my worth and value isn't fragile or uncertain. It is anchored in You. Help me live as Your image-bearer today — showing love, grace, and truth — so that others may see You in me and be drawn to know You too. Amen.

 En el nombre de Jesús, nos presentamos ante Ti, Dios, gracias por crearme a Tu imagen. Ayúdame a encontrar mi valor en Ti y a vivir con confianza en Tu diseño de cómo me creaste. Amén.

 «Y Dios creó al hombre a su imagen, a imagen de Dios lo creó; varón y hembra los creó». — Génesis 1:27

 ¿Cuántos iPhones crees que se han vendido desde que salieron al mercado? Si has respondido 3000 millones, ¡has acertado! En 2007, Apple lanzó el primer iPhone. Al principio, la gente no sabía qué pensar del teléfono: no tenía teclado y era solo una gran pantalla táctil con un único botón en la parte delantera. Pero lo que lo hizo revolucionario no fue solo su aspecto, sino la base en la que se construyó. El iPhone se diseñó para crecer, actualizarse y manejar aplicaciones que aún ni siquiera se habían imaginado. La base del iPhone determinó cómo lo usaríamos en el futuro.

 Génesis 1 nos muestra nuestra base como personas. En el sexto día de la creación, después de llenar los cielos de aves, los mares de peces y la tierra de animales, Dios creó algo completamente único y diferente de todo lo demás que había creado hasta ese momento: los seres humanos. Y lo hizo de una manera diferente a todo lo demás. Fuimos creados «a su imagen» y luego nos insufló vida.

 Eso significa que no eres un accidente, una idea de último momento o un subproducto de la evolución. Fuiste creado intencionalmente, con valor, dignidad y propósito. Tu valor no proviene de lo que haces, de lo que posees o de cómo te ven los demás. Proviene del hecho de que el Creador del universo imprimió Su imagen en ti.

 Al igual que la base del iPhone lo hizo capaz de cosas que el mundo aún no podía ver, tu base en Dios significa que Él puso en ti más de lo que te das cuenta. Fuiste creado para reflejar Sus atributos al mundo que te rodea. Para reflejar Su amor, creatividad, justicia, gracia, compasión y misericordia, por nombrar algunos. Y no solo eso, sino que cada persona que conoces, desde el niño más pequeño hasta el abuelo más anciano, lleva esa misma imagen.

 Nuestra cultura dice que tienes que ganarte tu valor. Dios dice que ya lo tienes, porque Él te creó a su imagen y declaró que su creación de ti es «muy buena». Nuestro mundo dice que tu valor cambia con las circunstancias. Dios dice que tu valor está anclado en su imagen, y nada puede quitarte eso.

 Así que, tanto si tienes 15 años y estás descubriendo quién eres, como si tienes 95 y estás reflexionando sobre toda una vida, recuerda dónde reside tu verdadero fundamento. Eres una creación de Dios. Eres portador de su imagen. Tu fundamento es la imagen de Dios, y eso nunca cambia.

 Ser creados a imagen de Dios no solo significa conocer nuestro valor, sino también vivirlo. Debido a que Jesús nos ha redimido, estamos llamados a crecer cada día más a su semejanza, tratando a los demás —nuestras familias, compañeros de clase, compañeros de trabajo y vecinos— como portadores de su imagen, con amor y compasión. La forma en que tratamos a las personas es muy importante: cuando muestras amabilidad, honras la imagen de Dios en ellas mientras reflejas Su imagen en ti; cuando perdonas, reflejas Su carácter; cuando muestras amor, gracia y compasión, honras a un compañero portador de Su imagen y vives según la imagen que Él imprimió en ti. Y al vivir de esta manera, Dios nos abrirá puertas para compartir las buenas nuevas, de modo que otros puedan descubrir al Dios que los creó, los ama y anhela que reflejen Su imagen en su relación con Él.

 Padre, gracias porque mi valor y mi dignidad no son frágiles ni inciertos. Están anclados en ti. Ayúdame a vivir hoy como portador de tu imagen, mostrando amor, gracia y verdad, para que otros puedan verte en mí y sentirse atraídos a conocerte también. Amén.
