Bible Prophecy - Daniel 2:31-45 - November 16, 2025

Today’s devotional is about one of the most significant pieces of predicted history in our Bible.

 It’s the account of Daniel, a teenage Hebrew transported to Babylonia by Nebuchadnezzar, who became king of this powerful empire. 

 You know the story. The king had a troubling dream and insisted that his wise men both describe and interpret it. Of course, they couldn’t describe the dream without being told about it. Nebuchadnezzar was demanding they perform a miracle and became infuriated when they failed. The price for failure was that all the wise men (including Daniel) would be executed. Still, Daniel succeeded in interpreting the dream, saving all the wise men and delivering the well-known prophecy about the 5-part statue. Nebuchadnezzar was so impressed that he promoted Daniel to a leadership role, leaving us with the dream’s details and meaning. You also likely recall at least the outline of this dream and its interpretation. The king dreamt of a statue with:

 1) a gold head,

2) silver chest and arms,

3) bronze middle and thighs,

4) iron legs,

5) mixed iron and clay feet and toes

 Daniel interpreted this to be five kingdoms with Babylonia and Nebuchadnezzar being the gold head. From this point, Daniel was predicting that larger, but less powerful kingdoms would take over. Your Bible maps likely show the first four empires as: Babylonia, Assyria, Greece, and the Roman Empire. Don’t miss this. Your maps only show 4 of the five empires in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. We’ll deal with the 5th below.

 We need to deal with a question that some argue about. Did Daniel really predict this before it became history?

 In short, if we believe that God spoke our universe, planet, us, our countries, critters, and coffee into existence, how hard can it be to believe that he also foresaw and guided how we would manage our empire building? I believe that God easily gave Daniel a shockingly accurate prophecy about future history, just as his son would one day restore life to a friend who had died and was already buried.

 Next: some, but not all of us, are interested in history, predicted or not. You only have a few minutes carved out for this devotional, so let’s get to what still impacts us today.

Here are the key verses that Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar about this final feet and toes, iron and clay, 5th empire.

 2:43  As you saw the iron mixed with soft clay, so they will mix with one another in marriage, but they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay.  44  And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever,  45  just as you saw that a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold.

 So, you can choose to study the predicted unfolding of history as you prefer, but you cannot ignore how God, through Daniel, told us that he would set up a kingdom outside of human countries, a kingdom of his own. It will be (and now is) an eternal kingdom that will eventually destroy all our human kingdoms and that will stand forever.

 The creation of this eternal kingdom seems to have been finished the day Jesus died on the cross. You can find its current, planet-wide map on the internet or read all about it in the New Testament.

 La reflexión de hoy trata sobre uno de los acontecimientos históricos más significativos predichos en nuestra Biblia.

 Es el relato de Daniel, un adolescente hebreo trasladado a Babilonia por Nabucodonosor, quien se convirtió en rey de este poderoso imperio.

 Ya conocéis la historia. El rey tuvo un sueño inquietante e insistió en que sus sabios lo describieran e interpretaran. Por supuesto, no podían describir el sueño sin que se lo contaran. Nabucodonosor les exigía que realizaran un milagro y se enfureció cuando fracasaron. El precio del fracaso era que todos los sabios (incluido Daniel) serían ejecutados. Aun así, Daniel logró interpretar el sueño, salvando a todos los sabios y entregando la conocida profecía sobre la estatua de cinco partes. Nabucodonosor quedó tan impresionado que ascendió a Daniel a un puesto de liderazgo, dejándonos los detalles y el significado del sueño. Probablemente también recuerdes al menos el resumen de este sueño y su interpretación. El rey soñó con una estatua con:

 1) cabeza de oro,

2) pecho y brazos de plata,

3) abdomen y muslos de bronce,

4) piernas de hierro,

5) pies y dedos de hierro y arcilla mezclados

 Daniel interpretó que se trataba de cinco reinos, siendo Babilonia y Nabucodonosor la cabeza de oro. A partir de ahí, Daniel predijo que reinos más grandes, pero menos poderosos, tomarían el relevo. Es probable que los mapas de su Biblia muestren los cuatro primeros imperios como: Babilonia, Asiria, Grecia y el Imperio Romano. No se pierda esto. Sus mapas solo muestran cuatro de los cinco imperios del sueño de Nabucodonosor. Nos ocuparemos del quinto más adelante.

 Tenemos que abordar una cuestión sobre la que hay debate. ¿Predijo Daniel realmente esto antes de que se convirtiera en historia?

 En resumen, si creemos que Dios creó nuestro universo, nuestro planeta, a nosotros, nuestros países, los animales y el café, ¿qué tan difícil puede ser creer que también previó y guió la forma en que administraríamos la construcción de nuestro imperio? Creo que Dios le dio fácilmente a Daniel una profecía sorprendentemente precisa sobre la historia futura, al igual que su hijo algún día devolvería la vida a un amigo que había muerto y ya estaba enterrado.

 A continuación: algunos, pero no todos, estamos interesados en la historia, predicha o no. Solo tienes unos minutos para esta reflexión, así que vayamos a lo que todavía nos impacta hoy en día.

 Aquí están los versículos clave que Daniel le dijo a Nabucodonosor sobre este quinto imperio final, con pies y dedos de hierro y arcilla.

 2:43  Así como viste el hierro mezclado con arcilla blanda, así se mezclarán entre sí en matrimonio, pero no se mantendrán unidos, así como el hierro no se mezcla con la arcilla.  44  Y en los días de esos reyes, el Dios del cielo establecerá un reino que nunca será destruido, ni será dejado a otro pueblo. Este reino desmenuzará y acabará con todos estos reinos, y permanecerá para siempre,  45  tal como viste que una piedra fue cortada de la montaña sin mano humana y desmenuzó el hierro, el bronce, el barro, la plata y el oro.

 Así que puedes elegir estudiar el desarrollo predicho de la historia como prefieras, pero no puedes ignorar cómo Dios, a través de Daniel, nos dijo que establecería un reino fuera de los países humanos, un reino propio. Será (y ahora es) un reino eterno que acabará destruyendo todos nuestros reinos humanos y que permanecerá para siempre.
