Daily Word of Encouragement 11.21.25 - Hannah Porter

Bible Prophecy - Revelation 1:9-18 - November 21, 2025

John starts humbly with a reminder of who he is and what he is, a brother and a partner of those he is writing to, thereby putting himself on the same level as them rather than being elevated. He is also reminding them that he, too, has suffered great hardships (he is, in fact, exiled to the island of Patmos when writing this letter because of his belief in and teaching of Jesus as Lord and Savior), that he, too, is a fellow co-laborer for the Kingdom of God, and that he too must have patient endurance. 

 This is a simple reminder and way to start a letter that conveys a life-changing vision from God. Now, getting into the vision itself and into many sections of Revelation, I encourage each of you to research and read for yourselves, find a Biblical commentary online or in a library, read books, and do research. Other people can communicate God’s Word to you, which is great, but there is something uniquely special about studying it yourself as you uncover more parts of the character and heart of God.

One day, the Lord speaks to John and tells him to write all that he sees in a letter to the seven churches (the seven churches to which John specifically ministered). (This next part is an explanation based on commentaries, but as I said, please read and research yourself.): The Vision

 -Seven lampstands: the seven churches, or in a broader sense, “the global church”

-One who is like a son of man: this is a call back to Daniel 7, this represents Jesus

-Long robes and golden sash: He is dressed as a high priest

-White hair: purity

-Eyes of fire: nothing escapes the penetrating gaze of Jesus (also another callback to Daniel 7)

-Feet of burnished bronze: Unknown meaning, but possibly being ready to pass judgment and trample enemies

-Voice like the roar of many waters: powerful, overwhelming

-Seven stars in His right hand: indicating seven angels/messengers to the seven churches

-Double-edged sword coming from his mouth: referring to the Word of God, see Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

-Face shining at full strength: His glory and power and being are too much for our finite minds to comprehend or even view; it would be impossible to view Him in His fullness of Glory in our non-perfect human forms.

 Now, I know all of that seems like a lot of random pieces of information, and it is, but if we put it together, we see the picture of a Jesus, powerful, holy, righteous, close to His bride, His church, ready to purge and cleanse His church, as well as go after those who are persecuting His church. He is the ultimate judge, protector, encourager, and refiner. What was John’s response to this surprise vision? To fall at Jesus’ feet as if he (John) were dead. Then something extra special happens: He goes on to do the real “mic drop” by revealing Himself fully as the Risen King, the Living Christ, the Savior of the World. He says “don’t be afraid” (that is said a LOT in the Bible, must mean it’s pretty important, right?), “I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”

 WOW.

 “I AM” - alpha and omega, resurrected from the dead, alive forever, conqueror of death and grave. Incredible, powerful. In this passage alone, Jesus is giving us both a visual image of who He is for the church (as comforter, cleanser, protector, etc.) and a verbal/visual image of who He is as the conqueror of sin and the grave.

 I know this is a bit of a unique passage, but I would encourage you to let it be a catalyst to start diving deeper into the study of the Word, whether in your own personal time with the Lord or with Bible study groups, etc. Don’t let unknown imagery or old words throw you off. I promise the more you get to know God’s Word and His heart, the bigger He becomes, the more beautiful He becomes, and the more you understand our profound, desperate need for Him as our Savior.

 Juan comienza humildemente recordando quién es y qué es, un hermano y compañero de aquellos a quienes escribe, situándose así al mismo nivel que ellos en lugar de elevarse por encima. También les recuerda que él también ha sufrido grandes dificultades (de hecho, cuando escribe esta carta está exiliado en la isla de Patmos por su fe y sus enseñanzas sobre Jesús como Señor y Salvador), que él también es un compañero de trabajo para el Reino de Dios y que él también debe tener paciencia y resistencia.

  Se trata de un simple recordatorio y una forma de comenzar una carta que transmite una visión de Dios que cambia la vida. Ahora, entrando en la visión en sí y en muchas secciones del Apocalipsis, os animo a cada uno de vosotros a investigar y leer por vosotros mismos, a buscar un comentario bíblico en Internet o en una biblioteca, a leer libros y a investigar. Otras personas pueden comunicaros la Palabra de Dios, lo cual es estupendo, pero hay algo único y especial en estudiarla vosotros mismos a medida que descubrís más aspectos del carácter y el corazón de Dios.

Un día, el Señor le habla a Juan y le dice que escriba todo lo que ve en una carta a las siete iglesias (las siete iglesias a las que Juan ministró específicamente). (La siguiente parte es una explicación basada en comentarios, pero como dije, por favor lean e investiguen por ustedes mismos): La visión

 -Siete candeleros: las siete iglesias, o en un sentido más amplio, «la iglesia global».

-Uno que es como un hijo de hombre: esto es una referencia a Daniel 7, representa a Jesús

-Túnicas largas y cinturón dorado: está vestido como un sumo sacerdote

-Cabello blanco: pureza

-Ojos de fuego: nada escapa a la mirada penetrante de Jesús (otra referencia a Daniel 7)

-Pies de bronce bruñido: significado desconocido, pero posiblemente estar listo para juzgar y pisotear a los enemigos

-Voz como el rugido de muchas aguas: poderosa, abrumadora

-Siete estrellas en su mano derecha: indicando siete ángeles/mensajeros a las siete iglesias

-Espada de doble filo que sale de su boca: en referencia a la Palabra de Dios, véase Hebreos 4:12 «Porque la palabra de Dios es viva y eficaz. Más afilada que cualquier espada de doble filo, penetra hasta dividir el alma y el espíritu, las articulaciones y la médula; juzga los pensamientos y las actitudes del corazón».

-Rostro resplandeciente en toda su fuerza: Su gloria, su poder y su ser son demasiado para que nuestras mentes finitas puedan comprenderlos o incluso verlos; sería imposible verlo en toda su gloria en nuestras formas humanas imperfectas.

 Ahora bien, sé que todo esto parece un montón de información aleatoria, y lo es, pero si lo juntamos, vemos la imagen de un Jesús poderoso, santo, justo, cercano a su novia, su iglesia, listo para purgar y limpiar su iglesia, así como para perseguir a aquellos que la persiguen. Él es el juez, protector, animador y refinador definitivo. ¿Cuál fue la respuesta de Juan a esta visión sorpresa? Caer a los pies de Jesús como si él (Juan) estuviera muerto. Entonces ocurre algo muy especial: Él continúa con el verdadero «mic drop» al revelarse plenamente como el Rey Resucitado, el Cristo Viviente, el Salvador del Mundo. Él dice: «No temas» (eso se dice MUCHO en la Biblia, debe significar que es bastante importante, ¿verdad?), «Yo soy el Primero y el Último. Yo soy el que vive. Morí, pero mira, ¡estoy vivo por los siglos de los siglos! Y tengo las llaves de la muerte y del sepulcro».

 GUAU.

 «YO SOY»: el alfa y el omega, resucitado de entre los muertos, vivo para siempre, vencedor de la muerte y la tumba. Increíble, poderoso. Solo en este pasaje, Jesús nos da una imagen visual de quién es Él para la iglesia (como consolador, purificador, protector, etc.) y una imagen verbal/visual de quién es Él como vencedor del pecado y la tumba.

 Sé que este es un pasaje un poco singular, pero te animo a que lo utilices como catalizador para empezar a profundizar en el estudio de la Palabra, ya sea en tu tiempo personal con el Señor o en grupos de estudio bíblico, etc. No dejes que las imágenes desconocidas o las palabras antiguas te desanimen. Te prometo que cuanto más conozcas la Palabra de Dios y Su corazón, más grande se volverá Él, más hermoso se volverá y más comprenderás nuestra profunda y desesperada necesidad de Él como nuestro Salvador.
