Bible Prophecy - Genesis 12:1-3 - November 2, 2025

Now the Lord said to Abram (Abraham), "Go forth from your country, and your relatives, and from your  father's house, to the land which I will show you."  BY FAITH Abraham, when he was called, obeyed  by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance;  AND HE WENT OUT NOT KNOWING WHERE HE WAS GOING." Genesis 12:1 and Hebrews 11:8

 In the verses listed above, we see Abraham, by faith, obeying God even though God's directive probably didn't make sense from a human perspective.  In Genesis Chapter 22, we also see Abraham obeying God, in what to him must have seemed totally understandable. God told him to take his son, his only son, and offer him up as a sacrifice.  

 God doesn't have directives/commandments just for the giants of the faith; He also has them for us.  On top of that, He tells us in John 14:15, "If you love me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS." Like the commandments God gave to Abraham, some of the ones God lays out for us seem unrealistic or even impossible.

 * Matthew 5:44 "I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you."

* Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to Me (Jesus), and does not hate his father, mother, wife and children, and brothers and sisters, and yes even his own life, he cannot be my disciple."

* Philippians 2:14 "Do ALL things without grumbling or disputing."

* Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord always." (The apostle Paul wrote this from prison)

* Hebrews 13:17 "Obey your leaders, and submit to them."

 Even if we love God with all our hearts, we aren't Abraham; we struggle to obey His commandments when they don't make human sense.  In Proverbs 3:5-6, God gives us a formula for working through this problem.

 * Trust in the Lord with all your heart

* Don't lean on your own human understanding

* Acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths

 The chorus of the hymn, Trust and Obey, is the perfect ending for this devotion:  

 "Trust and Obey, for there's no other way                             

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey"

Have you recently felt the gentle nudging of the Holy Spirit, guiding us to move forward with a directive that, from your human point of view, doesn't make any sense?

 Y el Señor dijo a Abram (Abraham): «Sal de tu tierra, de entre tus parientes y de la casa de tu padre, y ve a la tierra que te mostraré».  POR FE Abraham, cuando fue llamado, obedeció  y salió a un lugar que iba a recibir como herencia;  Y SALIÓ SIN SABER A DÓNDE IBA». Génesis 12:1 y Hebreos 11:8

 En los versículos citados anteriormente, vemos a Abraham, por fe, obedeciendo a Dios aunque la directiva de Dios probablemente no tuviera sentido desde una perspectiva humana. En Génesis, capítulo 22, también vemos a Abraham obedeciendo a Dios, en lo que para él debió parecer totalmente incomprensible. Dios le dijo que tomara a su hijo, su único hijo, y lo ofreciera en sacrificio.

 Dios no tiene directivas/mandamientos solo para los gigantes de la fe; también los tiene para nosotros. Además, nos dice en Juan 14:15: «Si me amáis, GUARDAD MIS MANDAMIENTOS». Al igual que los mandamientos que Dios le dio a Abraham, algunos de los que Dios nos da parecen poco realistas o incluso imposibles.

 * Mateo 5:44 «Os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos y orad por los que os persiguen».

* Lucas 14:26 «Si alguno viene a mí (Jesús) y no aborrece a su padre, a su madre, a su mujer, a sus hijos, a sus hermanos, a sus hermanas, y aun a su propia vida, no puede ser mi discípulo».

* Filipenses 2:14 «Haced TODO sin murmuraciones ni discusiones».

* Filipenses 4:4 «Regocijaos en el Señor siempre». (El apóstol Pablo escribió esto desde la cárcel).

* Hebreos 13:17 «Obedeced a vuestros líderes y someteos a ellos».

 Aunque amemos a Dios con todo nuestro corazón, no somos Abraham; nos cuesta obedecer sus mandamientos cuando no tienen sentido desde el punto de vista humano.  En Proverbios 3:5-6, Dios nos da una fórmula para resolver este problema.

 * Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón

* No te apoyes en tu propio entendimiento

* Reconócelo, y Él enderezará tus caminos

 El estribillo del himno «Confía y obedece» es el final perfecto para esta devoción:

 «Confía y obedece, porque no hay otra manera 

de ser feliz en Jesús, sino confiar y obedecer».

 ¿Has sentido recientemente el suave empujón del Espíritu Santo, guiándonos para seguir adelante con una directiva que, desde tu punto de vista humano, no tiene ningún sentido?
