Bible Prophecy - Revelation 20:11-15 - November 29, 2025

Revelation 20:11-15 - Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence, earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

 This passage serves as a sobering reminder that one day, all those who chose to place their faith in someone or something other than Jesus Christ will face their final judgment. John tells of a great white throne, on which the Righteous Judge sits – the fullness of the triune God. (John 5:22-27) But John mentions something about this setting – "earth and sky fled away, and there was no place found for them." There is no escaping this judgment if you must stand before this throne. This is not a trial, this is a "sentencing". There will be no presenting evidence or arguing facts. The facts are in, and those standing before the great white throne will do so in silence as they are judged by the books that are present, most notably the Lamb's Book of Life. Those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on Calvary for salvation have their names written in the Book of Life, and no one can erase them. Those whose names are not in it will be judged by their works, which, even at our best, amount to a pile of nasty rags. (Isaiah 64:6)

 Friend, if your name is written in the Book of Life, then your sins have already been judged. Jesus paid the penalty for your sins and mine when He willingly hung on a rugged cross, shed His innocent blood, then rose again the third day, victorious over sin and death! Because of that, we don't have to face the great white throne judgment.

However, this serves as a stark reminder of our need to share the gospel with others – family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, etc. Are we aware of the spiritual needs of those around us, or do we tend to go through our days with blinders on? As we enter the holiday season, the best gift we can give someone is not a gadget we saw on Amazon, but to share the gospel with them personally or to invite them to an event where the gospel will be presented. What a glorious thing if there could be one fewer person standing in condemnation before the great white throne!

 Apocalipsis 20:11-15 - Entonces vi un gran trono blanco y al que estaba sentado en él. De su presencia huyeron la tierra y el cielo, y no se encontró lugar para ellos. Y vi a los muertos, grandes y pequeños, de pie ante el trono, y se abrieron los libros. Luego se abrió otro libro, que es el libro de la vida. Y los muertos fueron juzgados por lo que estaba escrito en los libros, según lo que habían hecho. Y el mar entregó los muertos que había en él, y la muerte y el Hades entregaron los muertos que había en ellos, y fueron juzgados, cada uno según sus obras. Entonces la muerte y el Hades fueron arrojados al lago de fuego. Este es el segundo muerte, el lago de fuego. Y si el nombre de alguien no se hallaba escrito en el libro de la vida, era arrojado al lago de fuego.

 Este pasaje sirve como un recordatorio aleccionador de que un día, todos aquellos que eligieron poner su fe en alguien o algo que no fuera Jesucristo enfrentarán su juicio final. Juan habla de un gran trono blanco, en el que se sienta el Juez Justo: la plenitud del Dios trino. (Juan 5:22-27) Pero Juan menciona algo sobre este escenario: «la tierra y el cielo huyeron, y no se encontró lugar para ellos». No hay forma de escapar a este juicio si tienes que presentarte ante este trono. No se trata de un juicio, sino de una «sentencia». No habrá presentación de pruebas ni discusión de hechos. Los hechos están claros, y los que se presenten ante el gran trono blanco lo harán en silencio, mientras son juzgados por los libros que están presentes, sobre todo el Libro de la Vida del Cordero. Aquellos que han puesto su fe en Jesucristo y en su obra consumada en el Calvario para la salvación tienen sus nombres escritos en el Libro de la Vida, y nadie puede borrarlos. Aquellos cuyos nombres no están en él serán juzgados por sus obras, que, incluso en el mejor de los casos, equivalen a un montón de trapos sucios. (Isaías 64:6)

 Amigo, si tu nombre está escrito en el Libro de la Vida, entonces tus pecados ya han sido juzgados. Jesús pagó el castigo por tus pecados y los míos cuando se colgó voluntariamente en una cruz rugosa, derramó su sangre inocente y luego resucitó al tercer día, ¡victorioso sobre el pecado y la muerte! Por eso, no tenemos que enfrentarnos al juicio del gran trono blanco.

 Sin embargo, esto nos sirve como un claro recordatorio de nuestra necesidad de compartir el evangelio con los demás: familiares, amigos, compañeros de trabajo, conocidos, etc. ¿Somos conscientes de las necesidades espirituales de quienes nos rodean, o tendemos a pasar nuestros días con anteojeras? Al entrar en la temporada navideña, el mejor regalo que podemos hacer a alguien no es un gadget que vimos en Amazon, sino compartir el evangelio con ellos personalmente o invitarlos a un evento donde se presentará el evangelio. ¡Qué glorioso sería si hubiera una persona menos condenada ante el gran trono blanco!
