Bible Prophecy - Genesis 49:8-12 - November 3, 2025

God, thank You that Your Word is true from beginning to end. Help me to trust Your promises and live today in light of Your faithfulness. Amen.

 “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.” – Genesis 49:10

 One of the most amazing and terrifying moments I have ever experienced happened in San Francisco. I have an awesome friend who works for the Golden Gate Transit Authority, and every year, he can bring four people to the top of the red towers on the Golden Gate Bridge. He asked if I wanted to go, and initially, I said no because I am terrified of heights. However, I then realized this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so I went. Standing at the top of the tour was terrifying; I literally froze with fear, but it was also one of the most amazing views I have ever seen.

 When the Golden Gate Bridge was finished in 1937, it instantly became an icon of San Francisco. At the time, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, stretching more than a mile across the water. But what’s amazing is that the engineers designed it to last far into the future. It was built with sufficient flexibility and strength to withstand earthquakes, storms, and the passage of millions of cars every year. Almost 90 years later, the bridge is still standing strong, because its design was never just about the moment — it was about the generations to come who would experience it.

 Genesis 49 captures Jacob’s final words to his sons, and when he speaks to Judah, he says something remarkable: “The scepter will not depart from Judah.” He wasn’t just talking about Judah’s lifetime or even the next few kings. He was pointing ahead to a King whose reign would never end — Jesus Christ, the Lion of Judah.

 Think about that for a moment: Jacob spoke those words around 1800 BC. Jesus wasn’t born until nearly 1,800 years later. That’s a loooooooong time to wait. Nations rose and fell. Kingdoms appeared and disappeared. God’s people went through slavery, wilderness, wars, and exile. But through it all, God’s promise never moved. Just like the Golden Gate Bridge was built to stand the test of time, God’s Word was built to last through every storm and the shifting landscapes of history.

 And so, here we are, reading this prophecy 3800 years after it was spoken, and over 2000 years since Jesus came to earth. What does this mean for us today? It means if God always keeps His promises, then we can trust Him now. The same God who sent His Son into the world just as He said He would is the God who holds your life in His hands today.

 And remember, prophecy isn’t just about looking back; it’s also about looking forward. The Bible tells us Jesus is coming again. Just as surely as He fulfilled the promise of His first coming, He will fulfill the promise of His return. We live in that in-between space — holding on to the truth that what God has promised, He will do in His perfect timing.

 And while we wait, we don’t just sit still. We are called to live like people of the Kingdom now. That means letting His reign shape our words, choices, actions, and relationships. When we forgive, when we serve, when we love our neighbors, we give people a glimpse of the King who is one day coming again. God’s promises always stand — so let’s live today as if His Kingdom has already come.

 God, thank You that every word You speak is true. Help me live with hope in Your promises, and let my life reflect the reign of King Jesus until the day He returns. In Jesus’ name, amen.

 «El cetro no se apartará de Judá, ni el bastón de mando de entre sus pies, hasta que venga el que le corresponde, y a él se someterán las naciones». — Génesis 49:10

 Uno de los momentos más increíbles y aterradores que he vivido ocurrió en San Francisco. Tengo un amigo maravilloso que trabaja para la Autoridad de Tránsito del Golden Gate y, cada año, puede llevar a cuatro personas a la cima de las torres rojas del puente Golden Gate. Me preguntó si quería ir y, al principio, le dije que no porque me da mucho miedo las alturas. Sin embargo, luego me di cuenta de que era una oportunidad única en la vida, así que fui. Estar en lo alto del puente fue aterrador; literalmente me quedé paralizada por el miedo, pero también fue una de las vistas más increíbles que he visto nunca.

 Cuando se terminó el puente Golden Gate en 1937, se convirtió al instante en un icono de San Francisco. En aquel momento, era el puente colgante más largo del mundo, con más de una milla de longitud sobre el agua. Pero lo más sorprendente es que los ingenieros lo diseñaron para que durara mucho tiempo. Se construyó con la flexibilidad y la resistencia suficientes para soportar terremotos, tormentas y el paso de millones de coches cada año. Casi 90 años después, el puente sigue en pie, porque su diseño no se centró solo en el momento, sino en las generaciones futuras que lo disfrutarían.

 Génesis 49 recoge las últimas palabras de Jacob a sus hijos, y cuando se dirige a Judá, dice algo extraordinario: «El cetro no se apartará de Judá». No se refería solo a la vida de Judá ni a los siguientes reyes. Se refería a un Rey cuyo reinado nunca terminaría: Jesucristo, el León de Judá.

 Piénsalo por un momento: Jacob pronunció esas palabras alrededor del año 1800 a. C. Jesús no nació hasta casi 1800 años después. Es un tiempo muuuu. Al igual que el puente Golden Gate se construyó para resistir el paso del tiempo, la Palabra de Dios se construyó para perdurar a través de todas las tormentas y los cambios del panorama histórico.

  Y así, aquí estamos, leyendo esta profecía 3800 años después de que fuera pronunciada, y más de 2000 años desde que Jesús vino a la tierra. ¿Qué significa esto para nosotros hoy en día? Significa que si Dios siempre cumple sus promesas, entonces podemos confiar en Él ahora. El mismo Dios que envió a su Hijo al mundo tal y como dijo que haría es el Dios que hoy sostiene tu vida en sus manos.

  Y recuerda, la profecía no solo consiste en mirar atrás, sino también en mirar hacia adelante. La Biblia nos dice que Jesús volverá. Del mismo modo que cumplió la promesa de su primera venida, cumplirá la promesa de su regreso. Vivimos en ese espacio intermedio, aferrándonos a la verdad de que lo que Dios ha prometido, lo hará en Su momento perfecto.

  Y mientras esperamos, no nos quedamos quietos. Estamos llamados a vivir como personas del Reino ahora. Eso significa dejar que Su reinado moldee nuestras palabras, decisiones, acciones y relaciones. Cuando perdonamos, cuando servimos, cuando amamos a nuestro prójimo, le damos a la gente un vistazo del Rey que un día volverá. Las promesas de Dios siempre se cumplen, así que vivamos hoy como si Su Reino ya hubiera llegado.

 Dios, gracias porque cada palabra que dices es verdadera. Ayúdame a vivir con esperanza en Tus promesas y haz que mi vida refleje el reinado del Rey Jesús hasta el día de Su regreso. En el nombre de Jesús, amén.
