Connect with God - 1 Timothy 2:1-4 - January 22, 2026

Timothy is starting out leading a church in Ephesus.  The church and Christians themselves are brand-new, so they do not have much to go on.  Timothy is asking some very important questions, like, "What should we do?"  Paul says, first of all, pray.  Pray for whom?  All people.  Even the king who's persecuting us? Yes, even him.  Actually, all leaders.   Paul says that this is the best way to achieve peace, by prayer.  

 As we look at this section of 1 Timothy, here are 4 insights into prayer.  1 for each verse.  

 Pray for all.  As mentioned earlier, verse 1 is talking about the church starting out, and the first thing asked of the church is to pray.  It is asked of us to pray first.  A great way to make prayer first is to begin and end the day in prayer.   Here are some definitions.  The definition of supplication is earnestly asking or begging for something.  Intercessions are requests on behalf of another.   The last phrase of verse 1 is that these prayers should be for all.

Especially leaders.  Prayer should be especially for leaders and those in leadership and authority.  When you pray for all people and those leading that helps bring peace.  This is not to pray for what or how they should lead, but pray in a way that brings peace and God's will, not our own.  Prayer is the best way to align yourself with God's goals for you and others.  

Prayer is good.  Praying is pleasing to God.  Because as we pray, we are closer to his will for us and his will for others.

Pray for all to be saved.  Remember, God's desire is that all come to the knowledge of him.  This is an easy thing to forget with all of our daily grind.  Our will gets in the way of our mind.  His will is for everyone to be blessed by the knowledge of him and to be saved by the loving Savior, Jesus Christ.

 Lord, please hear our prayers, let them be pleasing to your ears.  Help us to focus our time with You on prayer.  We pray for our leaders that their hearts will be turned toward you in all they do, and that Your will be done for peace in our lives.  Amen.

 Timoteo está comenzando a dirigir una iglesia en Éfeso. La iglesia y los cristianos son nuevos, por lo que no tienen mucho con qué contar. Timoteo está haciendo algunas preguntas muy importantes, como: «¿Qué debemos hacer?». Pablo dice que, en primer lugar, hay que orar. ¿Por quién? Por todas las personas. ¿Incluso por el rey que nos persigue? Sí, incluso por él. De hecho, por todos los líderes.   Pablo dice que la mejor manera de lograr la paz es mediante la oración. 

 Al examinar esta sección de 1 Timoteo, aquí hay cuatro ideas sobre la oración. Una por cada versículo.

Oren por todos. Como se mencionó anteriormente, el versículo 1 habla de la iglesia que está comenzando, y lo primero que se le pide a la iglesia es que ore. Se nos pide que oremos primero.  Una excelente manera de dar prioridad a la oración es comenzar y terminar el día con ella.   He aquí algunas definiciones.  La definición de súplica es pedir o rogar algo con fervor.  Las intercesiones son peticiones en nombre de otra persona.   La última frase del versículo 1 es que estas oraciones deben ser por todos.

Especialmente los líderes. La oración debe ser especialmente por los líderes y aquellos que están en posiciones de liderazgo y autoridad. Cuando oras por todas las personas y por aquellos que lideran, eso ayuda a traer paz. No se trata de orar por qué o cómo deben liderar, sino de orar de una manera que traiga paz y la voluntad de Dios, no la nuestra. La oración es la mejor manera de alinearte con los objetivos de Dios para ti y para los demás.

La oración es buena. Orar agrada a Dios. Porque cuando oramos, estamos más cerca de su voluntad para nosotros y su voluntad para los demás.

Ora para que todos sean salvos. Recuerda, el deseo de Dios es que todos lleguen al conocimiento de él. Esto es algo fácil de olvidar con todas nuestras tareas diarias. Nuestra voluntad se interpone en nuestra mente.  Su voluntad es que todos sean bendecidos por conocerlo y sean salvos por el amoroso Salvador, Jesucristo.

 Señor, escucha nuestras oraciones, que sean agradables a tus oídos. Ayúdanos a enfocar nuestro tiempo contigo en la oración. Oramos por nuestros líderes para que sus corazones se vuelvan hacia ti en todo lo que hacen, y que se haga tu voluntad para la paz en nuestras vidas. Amén.
