Connect with God - 2 Peter 1:19-21 - January 9, 2026

2 Peter 1:19-21 - And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 

 Do you remember the Transfiguration on the mountain (Luke 9:28-36)? In our passage today, Peter says we have an even MORE certain word of the prophets than that! We need to give it our attention because it is a light shining in the darkness of today's dark world. "The morning star" is likely an allusion to Num 24:17, a passage that applies to Jesus, the final and great son of David.

The "morning star rising in" our hearts probably refers to the effect on Believers of the full revelation accompanying Christ's return. We are told to give our attention to the words of the prophets so we'll be prepared when that wonderful event occurs, though we have no timeline and will await the will of God for that event!

Verses 20-21 remind us that our scriptures did NOT originate in the mind of any human being. God, Himself, gave the messages He determined would be "carried along by the Holy Spirit" – right into English and into our hands!!

Since God took such care to communicate truth to us, don't you think His Word deserves our consistent attention – even daily, to hear from Him? Certainly, we "would do well to pay attention," since He gave us a "lamp to shine in our dark place."

 2 Pedro 1:19-21 - Y tenemos la palabra profética más firme, a la cual hacéis bien en estar atentos como a una antorcha que alumbra en lugar oscuro, hasta que el día amanezca y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones, sabiendo primero esto: que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de interpretación privada. Porque ninguna profecía fue dada jamás por voluntad humana, sino que los hombres hablaron de parte de Dios, impulsados por el Espíritu Santo. 

 ¿Recuerdas la Transfiguración en la montaña (Lucas 9:28-36)? En nuestro pasaje de hoy, Pedro dice que tenemos una palabra de los profetas aún MÁS segura que esa. Debemos prestarle atención porque es una luz que brilla en la oscuridad del mundo actual. «La estrella de la mañana» es probablemente una alusión a Números 24:17, un pasaje que se aplica a Jesús, el último y gran hijo de David.

 La «estrella de la mañana que sale» en nuestros corazones probablemente se refiere al efecto que tiene en los creyentes la revelación completa que acompaña al regreso de Cristo. Se nos dice que prestemos atención a las palabras de los profetas para estar preparados cuando ocurra ese maravilloso acontecimiento, aunque no tenemos un calendario y esperaremos la voluntad de Dios para ese acontecimiento.

 Los versículos 20-21 nos recuerdan que nuestras Escrituras NO se originaron en la mente de ningún ser humano. Dios mismo dio los mensajes que determinó que serían «llevados por el Espíritu Santo», ¡directamente al inglés y a nuestras manos!

 Puesto que Dios se tomó tantas molestias para comunicarnos la verdad, ¿no crees que su Palabra merece nuestra atención constante, incluso diaria, para escucharle? Sin duda, «haríamos bien en prestar atención», ya que Él nos dio una «lámpara para iluminar nuestro lugar oscuro».
