The Book of Proverbs -Proverbs 15 - February 15, 2026

Proverbs 15:33 - “The fear of Yahweh is the discipline leading to wisdom, and before glory comes humility.”

As we make our way through the book of Proverbs, we are constantly invited to meditate on certain aspects of how we approach our daily lives. Well, isn’t that what wisdom is? Wisdom isn’t just knowledge; it is the discernment of how and when to apply this knowledge correctly. Every day, we make decisions about how we respond to situations, and biblical wisdom refers to how we apply what we learn from the Bible in our everyday lives.

One verse that has served me in my Christian life is Proverbs 15:1: “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” When I first got married, I had this idea of purchasing wall decorations with specific Biblical verses to hang in different places around my home. This verse is one of the first ones I ordered, and I put it in the bedroom I share with my wife. I wanted to get up every morning and have this be one of the verses I read before I leave anywhere because I need the constant reminder of how much impact my words can have on the different relationships I have at home, at work, at church, etc. Words and actions can build or destroy close relationships.

This entire proverb invites us to evaluate how wisely we conduct ourselves with our words, how the wise respond to discipline, and how much the Lord loves those who seek His righteousness rather than their own wickedness. V. 25 says, “Yahweh will tear down the house of the proud,” and it is a firm reminder of how God deals with the prideful, and we need to constantly look in the mirror and ask ourselves, what area of my life am I being prideful? Where is the Lord trying to work in my life? Where do I need His discipline? I know this is probably not our favorite question to ask Him, but it will lead us into a life that exemplifies what it means to fear the Lord and, in turn, lead us to real wisdom.

V.33 “El temor del SEÑOR es instrucción de sabiduría, Y antes de la gloria está la humildad.”

A medida que avanzamos en el libro de Proverbios, somos invitados constantemente a meditar sobre cómo llevamos nuestra vida diaria. ¿No es eso lo que es la sabiduría? La sabiduría no es solo conocimiento, sino el discernimiento de cómo y cuándo aplicar correctamente ese conocimiento. Cada día tomamos decisiones sobre cómo reaccionamos ante las situaciones y la sabiduría bíblica se refiere a cómo aplicamos lo que aprendemos de la Biblia a nuestra vida cotidiana.

Un versículo que me ha servido en mi vida cristiana es Proverbios 15:1: “La suave respuesta aparta el furor, Pero la palabra hiriente hace subir la ira.” Cuando me casé, tuve la idea de comprar decoraciones murales con versículos bíblicos específicos, para colgarlas en diferentes lugares de mi casa; Este versículo es uno de los primeros que pedí, y lo puse en el dormitorio que comparto con mi esposa. Yo quería levantarme cada mañana y que este fuera uno de los versículos que leo antes de irme a cualquier sitio porque necesito el recordatorio constante de cuánto impacto pueden tener mis palabras en las diferentes relaciones que tengo en casa, en el trabajo, en la iglesia, etc.

Las palabras y las acciones pueden construir o destruir relaciones cercanas. Todo este proverbio nos invita a evaluar cuán sabios somos con nuestras palabras, cómo reaccionan los sabios ante la disciplina y cuánto ama el Señor a quienes buscan su justicia en lugar de su propia maldad. V.25 dice “Yahvé derribará la casa de los soberbios.” y es un recordatorio firme de cómo Dios trata con los orgullosos, y necesitamos mirarnos constantemente al espejo y preguntarnos: ¿en qué área de mi vida estoy siendo orgulloso? ¿Cuál área de mi vida está El Señor obrando? ¿Dónde necesito Su disciplina? Sé que probablemente no sea nuestra pregunta favorita para hacerle, pero nos llevará a una vida que ejemplifique lo que significa temer al Señor y, a de igual manera, instruirnos en verdadera sabiduría.
