The Book of Proverbs -Proverbs 18 - February 18, 2026
In Proverbs 18, I have found wise words to lay before our mentors when training them. “A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions …He who answers before listening – that is folly and shame … the heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” Not only mentors, but anyone is wise who listens well before saying anything (which will hopefully be short and to-the-point). Why is that? Because “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit”. We need to remember how powerful our words can be, for good or ill.
Prov. 18:10 says, “The name (the very character) of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe”. My very soul is hidden in the character of my God ,and I am safe! How wonderful is that?!
And don’t miss mention of the “Friend who sticks closer than a brother”, in v24. Jesus says very clearly to His kids, “You’ve got a Friend in Me!”

En Proverbios 18, he encontrado palabras sabias para presentar a nuestros mentores cuando los formamos. «El necio no encuentra placer en comprender, sino que se deleita en expresar sus propias opiniones... El que responde antes de escuchar, eso es necedad y vergüenza... El corazón del discernidor adquiere conocimiento; los oídos de los sabios lo buscan». » No solo los mentores, sino cualquiera que escucha bien antes de decir algo (que esperemos que sea breve y conciso) es sabio. ¿Por qué? Porque «la lengua tiene poder de vida y muerte, y los que la aman comerán su fruto». Debemos recordar lo poderosas que pueden ser nuestras palabras, para bien o para mal.
Prov. 18:10 dice: «El nombre (el carácter mismo) del Señor es una torre fuerte; los justos corren hacia ella y están a salvo». ¡Mi alma está escondida en el carácter de mi Dios, y estoy a salvo! ¡Qué maravilloso es eso!
Y no te pierdas la mención del «amigo que es más fiel que un hermano», en el versículo 24. Jesús dice muy claramente a sus hijos: «¡Tenéis un amigo en mí!».
