The Book of Proverbs - Proverbs 2 - February 2, 2026
"My son, if you will receive my sayings, and treasure my commandments within you, you will discern the fear of the Lord, and discover the knowledge of God. Wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul." Proverbs 2:1,5 & 10
The first 12 verses of Proverbs Chapter 2 describe the benefits that a believer receives if he treasures God's commandments. This truth is reiterated in John 14:15, "If you love Me, keep my commandments." The New Testament is full of God's commandments; here are a few of them.
* "Love your enemies"
* "Abstain from all appearances of evil"
* "Do all to the glory of God"
* "Be doers of the Word & not hearers only"
* "Let not the sun go down on your wrath"
* "Love not the world or the things of the world"
* "Rejoice in the Lord always"
After reading these commandments, you might be saying to yourself, "There are many commandments in the bible, but just trying to keep the ones listed above isn't easy." That is true in the flesh, but if you submit to the Holy Spirit, who dwells within you, He will help and guide you as you walk through the challenges of living a Spirit-filled life (John 16:13 and Galatians 5:16).
Verse 12 summarizes why God emphasizes keeping His commandments. Keeping His commandments will "Deliver you from the way of evil." In verses 13-19, God describes examples of the way of evil.
* "They walk in the way of darkness"
* "Their paths are crooked"
* "They rejoice in the perversity of evil"
* "Their tracks lead to death"
Before you came to salvation, you were a sinner on your way to Hell (Romans 3:23 and 6:23A ). When God opened your heart to understand the truth of the gospel, He was laying before you the greatest gift ever offered to mankind; forgiveness of your sins and the opportunity to spend eternity with Him in heaven. If you have trusted Jesus as your savior and are a member of the Family of God, the words of this song should describe your life:

I have surrendered my all to Jesus 3X

If you are a Christian, but the words of this song don't describe you, this would be a good time to go before God in prayer and ask Him to help you make them a reality in your life.

«Hijo mío, si recibes mis palabras y atesoras mis mandamientos en tu interior, discernirás el temor del Señor y descubrirás el conocimiento de Dios. La sabiduría entrará en tu corazón y el conocimiento será agradable a tu alma». Proverbios 2:1, 5 y 10
Los primeros doce versículos del capítulo 2 de Proverbios describen los beneficios que recibe un creyente si atesora los mandamientos de Dios. Esta verdad se reitera en Juan 14:15: «Si me amáis, guardad mis mandamientos». El Nuevo Testamento está lleno de mandamientos de Dios; aquí hay algunos de ellos.
* «Ama a tus enemigos»
* «Abstente de toda apariencia de maldad»
* «Haz todo para la gloria de Dios»
* «Sed hacedores de la Palabra y no solo oyentes»
* «No dejes que el sol se ponga sobre tu ira»
* «No ames al mundo ni las cosas del mundo»
* «Regocijate siempre en el Señor»
Después de leer estos mandamientos, tal vez te digas a ti mismo: «Hay muchos mandamientos en la Biblia, pero solo intentar cumplir los que se enumeran arriba no es fácil». Eso es cierto en la carne, pero si te sometes al Espíritu Santo, que mora en ti, Él te ayudará y te guiará mientras atraviesas los desafíos de vivir una vida llena del Espíritu (Juan 16:13 y Gálatas 5:16).
El versículo 12 resume por qué Dios hace hincapié en guardar sus mandamientos. Guardar sus mandamientos «te librará del camino del mal». En los versículos 13-19, Dios describe ejemplos del camino del mal.
* «Andan por el camino de las tinieblas»
* «Sus caminos son torcidos»
* «Se regocijan en la perversidad del mal»
* «Sus huellas conducen a la muerte»
Antes de alcanzar la salvación, eras un pecador camino del infierno (Romanos 3:23 y 6:23A ). Cuando Dios abrió tu corazón para comprender la verdad del evangelio, te ofreció el mayor regalo jamás ofrecido a la humanidad: el perdón de tus pecados y la oportunidad de pasar la eternidad con Él en el cielo. Si has confiado en Jesús como tu salvador y eres miembro de la Familia de Dios, las palabras de esta canción deberían describir tu vida:

Si eres cristiano, pero las palabras de esta canción no te describen, este sería un buen momento para presentarte ante Dios en oración y pedirle que te ayude a hacerlas realidad en tu vida.
