The Book of Proverbs - Proverbs 9 - February 9, 2026
In Proverbs 9, wisdom and folly are contrasted. Both invite the gullible to their respective houses for a feast. Out of genuine love, Wisdom competes for the hearts of the uncommitted. Out of erotic lust, Folly competes for their bodies. We are told wicked mockers hate those who rebuke them, while the wise receive instruction, adding to their learning and becoming wiser still.
Since I pair requesting mentees with prepared mentors, I especially resonate with verse 9, “Instruct a wise (mentee) and (s)he will be wiser still…” Let me know if you’re interested in such a relationship.
Verse 10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”. Far from terror that distances, the fear of God is grasping the totality of His authority over me and responding with appropriate obedience, all the while remembering His great love for me that draws me near.
Relative to verse 10, I quote from “The Valley of Vision”. “Thou hast given me understanding… to know Thee, the only true God. I marvel the finite can know the Infinite… here in part, there in perfection; here a glimpse, there a glory.” Amen!

En Proverbios 9, se contraponen la sabiduría y la necedad. Ambas invitan a los crédulos a sus respectivas casas para celebrar un banquete. Por amor genuino, la Sabiduría compite por los corazones de los indecisos. Por lujuria erótica, la Necedad compite por sus cuerpos. Se nos dice que los burlones malvados odian a quienes los reprenden, mientras que los sabios reciben instrucción, lo que aumenta su aprendizaje y los hace aún más sabios.
Dado que emparejo a los alumnos que solicitan ayuda con mentores preparados, me identifico especialmente con el versículo 9: «Instruye al sabio (alumno) y será aún más sabio...». Si te interesa este tipo de relación, házmelo saber.
El versículo 10 dice: «El temor del Señor es el principio de la sabiduría, y el conocimiento del Santo es la inteligencia». Lejos del terror que aleja, el temor de Dios es comprender la totalidad de su autoridad sobre mí y responder con la obediencia adecuada, sin olvidar en ningún momento su gran amor por mí, que me acerca a él.
En relación con el versículo 10, cito de «El valle de la visión»: «Tú me has dado entendimiento... para conocerte a ti, el único Dios verdadero. Me maravilla que lo finito pueda conocer lo infinito... aquí en parte, allí en perfección; aquí un atisbo, allí una gloria». ¡Amén!
