Jesus’ Final Week - Luke 19:41-44 - April 2, 2026
As Jesus approached Jerusalem on this day, He wept. He knew there was no genuine spiritual perception in the celebration of the people who enthusiastically cheered His arrival. What were they thinking? Did they grasp the depth of their sin and rejoice in Jesus’ arrival to rescue them by putting their sin to death? No!
Were they convinced He had come to relieve them from the oppression of Rome and make Israel strong again? Yes, that’s what they were expecting and celebrating. They had no idea He had come to accomplish so much more, or how eternally important it was for Him to give Himself as THE substitute for the sin of His people. They were not celebrating the arrival of their Savior from sin!
He says to them, “If you had only known what would bring you true peace… but now it is hidden from your eyes”. This statement reminds us that God Himself opens hearts and eyes to enable truth to enter, and it is God Himself Who hides truth from eyes and hearts. He is absolutely sovereign (The Chooser) over who will belong to Him!
Jesus warns the people: “Because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you and … what would bring you peace…” great destruction is ahead for you, your families, and this city!

Cuando Jesús se acercaba a Jerusalén ese día, lloró. Sabía que no había una percepción espiritual genuina en la celebración del pueblo que vitoreaba con entusiasmo su llegada. ¿En qué pensaban? ¿Comprendían la profundidad de su pecado y se regocijaban por la llegada de Jesús para rescatarlos, dando muerte a su pecado? ¡No!
¿Estaban convencidos de que había venido a liberarlos de la opresión de Roma y a hacer que Israel volviera a ser fuerte? Sí, eso era lo que esperaban y lo que celebraban. No tenían ni idea de que había venido a lograr mucho más, ni de lo eternamente importante que era para Él entregarse a sí mismo como EL sustituto por el pecado de su pueblo. ¡No estaban celebrando la llegada de su Salvador del pecado!
Él les dice: «Si al menos hubierais sabido lo que os traería la verdadera paz… pero ahora está oculto a vuestros ojos». Esta afirmación nos recuerda que es Dios mismo quien abre los corazones y los ojos para permitir que la verdad entre, y es Dios mismo quien oculta la verdad a los ojos y a los corazones. ¡Él es absolutamente soberano (El que elige) sobre quién le pertenecerá!
Jesús advierte al pueblo: «Porque no reconocisteis el tiempo en que Dios vino a vosotros y… lo que os traería paz…», ¡os espera una gran destrucción a vosotros, a vuestras familias y a esta ciudad!
