Attributes of God - God is Sustainer - May 13, 2026

Have you ever felt like life is coming apart at the seams and you are barely holding it together? Your schedule is chaos, your coffee spills before you even take a sip, your phone battery dies at 2%, and somehow the “check engine” light always comes on right after payday. We spend so much of our lives trying to hold things together, but the truth is—we were never meant to be the glue of the universe. That job already belongs to Jesus. Colossians 1:17 says, “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (ESV).

Not some things. Not just spiritual things. All things. Paul reminds us that Jesus is not only the Creator of the universe, but also its Sustainer. The stars stay in place because Christ wills it. Your next breath is possible because He allows it. History moves forward under His authority We believe that Jesus is fully God, sovereign over creation, and actively involved in the lives of His people. That means the same Savior who died and rose again is also sustaining every detail of existence right now. He is not distant or uninvolved. He is present, powerful, and perfectly in control.

Sometimes we act like life depends entirely on us. We carry stress like we are Atlas holding up the world, when in reality most of us struggle just to hold onto our car keys.

The good news of Colossians 1:17 is that Jesus has never once been overwhelmed. He has never needed a nap, forgotten an appointment, or looked at your situation and thought, “Wow, this one might be too much.” The universe is not spinning out of control because Christ Himself is holding it together. And if He can sustain galaxies, He can sustain you through anxiety, disappointment, family struggles, loneliness, or uncertainty about the future.

So friend, let me encourage you to stop trying to be your own savior. Trust the One who already holds all things together. When life feels unstable, anchor yourself in Christ through prayer, Scripture, and obedience. Remember what the Psalmist said in Psalm 75:3 – “When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars.” Selah

This week, when stress rises or fear creeps in, pause and remind yourself: “Jesus is sustaining this moment too.” The same hands that hold the universe are holding you.

¿Alguna vez has sentido que la vida se está desmoronando y que apenas logras mantener todo unido? Tu horario es un caos, se te derrama el café antes de siquiera tomar un sorbo, la batería de tu teléfono muere al 2%, y de alguna manera la luz de “check engine” siempre se enciende justo después del día de pago. Pasamos gran parte de nuestra vida tratando de mantener todo bajo control, pero la verdad es que nunca fuimos llamados a ser el pegamento del universo. Ese trabajo ya le pertenece a Jesús. Colosenses 1:17 dice: “Y Él es antes de todas las cosas, y en Él todas las cosas permanecen” (ESV).

No algunas cosas. No solo las cosas espirituales. Todas las cosas. Pablo nos recuerda que Jesús no solo es el Creador del universo, sino también su Sustentador. Las estrellas permanecen en su lugar porque Cristo así lo quiere. Tu próximo respiro es posible porque Él lo permite. La historia avanza bajo Su autoridad. Creemos que Jesús es plenamente Dios, soberano sobre la creación, y activamente involucrado en la vida de Su pueblo. Eso significa que el mismo Salvador que murió y resucitó también está sosteniendo cada detalle de la existencia en este mismo momento. Él no está distante ni desconectado. Él está presente, es poderoso y tiene el control perfecto.

A veces actuamos como si la vida dependiera completamente de nosotros. Cargamos el estrés como si fuéramos Atlas sosteniendo el mundo, cuando en realidad la mayoría de nosotros apenas logramos no perder las llaves del carro.

La buena noticia de Colosenses 1:17 es que Jesús jamás ha estado abrumado ni una sola vez. Nunca ha necesitado una siesta, nunca ha olvidado una cita, ni ha mirado tu situación pensando: “Vaya, tal vez esto sea demasiado”. El universo no está girando fuera de control, porque Cristo mismo lo sostiene todo. Y si Él puede sostener galaxias, puede sostenerte a ti en medio de la ansiedad, la decepción, las luchas familiares, la soledad o la incertidumbre sobre el futuro.

Así que, amigo, déjame animarte a dejar de intentar ser tu propio salvador. Confía en Aquel que ya sostiene todas las cosas. Cuando la vida se sienta inestable, aférrate a Cristo por medio de la oración, la Escritura y la obediencia. Recuerda lo que dijo el salmista en Salmo 75:3: “Cuando la tierra y todos sus habitantes se tambalean, yo soy quien mantiene firmes sus columnas”. Selah.

Esta semana, cuando el estrés aumente o el temor se acerque, haz una pausa y recuérdate: “Jesús también está sosteniendo este momento”. Las mismas manos que sostienen el universo te están sosteniendo a ti.
