Daily Word of Encouragement 5.2.26 - Kitty Jones

Attributes of God - God is Eternal - May 2, 2026

Lord, you have been our dwelling place
   in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
   or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
   from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3 You return man to dust
   and say, “Return, O children of man!”
4 For a thousand years in your sight
   are but as yesterday when it is past,
   or as a watch in the night. (Psalm 90:1-4)

In this devotion, we focus on the “eternality” of God – He has no beginning and no end. We accept that as fact, but we really have no way to grasp the full meaning. Everything else we encounter in our earth-life has an identifiable beginning, and will someday end, no longer exist. But not God! “Before the mountains were born, or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, You are God!” Yes, “You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.” But before that, You created the heavens and the earth! A thousand of my years are like one day/night to You.

It is appropriate that we fear Your wrath for our sin, and yet the only One Who truly knows the power of Your hatred for sin BORE IT for me, for us, on His cross. Hallelujah! You normally allot to us 70 years, or 80 if you provide the strength – but “they pass quickly, and we fly away”. Oh, what a heart of wisdom You provide when You teach us to be appropriately attentive to each day You give us, that we may live in wisdom.

You have given us assignments of affliction and trouble, to bring appropriate attention to Yourself and do good to us in the process. There is deep peace for us as we rest in those facts. We are grateful to You, “Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love”, reminding us over and over that You. Are. Enough! Then “we will sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

In this quickly passing span of our life on earth, may Your favor “rest upon us. Establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands” – for Your glory and our good!

Señor, tú has sido nuestro refugio

  desde tiempos inmemoriales.

Antes de que nacieran las montañas,

  ni de que tú hubieras formado la tierra y el mundo,

  desde la eternidad hasta la eternidad, tú eres Dios.

Tú devuelves al hombre al polvo

  y dices: «¡Volved, hijos de los hombres!»

Porque mil años a tus ojos

  son como el día de ayer que pasó,

  o como una vigilia de la noche. (Salmo 90:1-4)

En esta devoción, nos centramos en la «eternidad» de Dios: Él no tiene principio ni fin. Aceptamos eso como un hecho, pero en realidad no tenemos forma de comprender su pleno significado. Todo lo demás con lo que nos encontramos en nuestra vida terrenal tiene un principio identificable, y algún día terminará, dejará de existir. ¡Pero no Dios! «Antes de que nacieran las montañas, o de que Tú creases la tierra y el mundo, desde la eternidad hasta la eternidad, ¡Tú eres Dios!» Sí, «Tú has sido nuestro refugio a lo largo de todas las generaciones». Pero antes de eso, ¡Tú creaste los cielos y la tierra! Mil de mis años son como un día y una noche para Ti.

Es apropiado que temamos Tu ira por nuestro pecado, y sin embargo, el Único que verdaderamente conoce el poder de Tu odio por el pecado LO SOPORTÓ por mí, por nosotros, en Su cruz. ¡Aleluya! Normalmente nos concedes 70 años, u 80 si nos das la fuerza, pero «pasan rápidamente, y nos vamos volando». ¡Oh, qué corazón lleno de sabiduría nos das cuando nos enseñas a estar debidamente atentos a cada día que nos concedes, para que podamos vivir con sabiduría!

Nos has dado pruebas de aflicción y tribulación, para que prestemos la debida atención a Ti y para hacernos bien en el proceso. Hay una paz profunda para nosotros al descansar en esos hechos. Te damos gracias: «Sácianos por la mañana con Tu amor inquebrantable», recordándonos una y otra vez que Tú. Eres. ¡Suficiente! Entonces «cantaremos de alegría y nos regocijaremos todos nuestros días».

En este rápido lapso de nuestra vida en la tierra, que Tu favor «repose sobre nosotros. Afirma la obra de nuestras manos para nosotros —sí, afirma la obra de nuestras manos—» —¡para Tu gloria y nuestro bien!
