Attributes of God - God is Unchanging - May 3, 2026

"For I am the LORD, I change not." Malachi 3:6

By the middle of my senior year in college, I already had a job lined up; to be a condemnation appraiser for the state of Washington Highway Department.   Shortly before I graduated, I called their main office to find out when and where I was to report to work.  I was told there had been a change of plans, and they wanted me to gain some job experience in real estate before I came to work for them.  I asked how long, as I was told, "at least one year."  OUCH!!!   I got a job selling real estate, but it didn't take long before I knew that this wasn't for me (I listed just one house).  Even though I wasn't yet a Christian, I believe God directed me toward salvation and, eventually, to the pastoral staff of Hessel Church for 32 years.

The Bible tells us that God is immutable; He and His promises NEVER change. What would your Christian life be like if God weren't immutable, and His promises were conditional, like those of the Washington State Highway Department in 1960?  Here are a few examples:

* "I MAY never leave you or forsake you."

* "If  we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to MAYBE forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

* " Absent from the body, just MIGHT be present with the Lord."

* "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you just MIGHT be saved."

*  I might have Jesus be your advocate. 

* "Truly, truly, I say to you, If you believe, I MAY give you eternal life."

*  If I am in a good mood, "I MIGHT just hear your prayers."

Aren't you thankful that John 3:16 is 100% true, and not conditional:

For God so loved the world

That He gave His only begotten Son

That whosoever believeth in Him

SHALL NOT PERISH, but 

HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE"   KJV

A mediados de mi último año de universidad, ya tenía un trabajo asegurado: iba a ser tasador de expropiaciones para el Departamento de Carreteras del estado de Washington. Poco antes de graduarme, llamé a su oficina central para averiguar cuándo y dónde debía presentarme a trabajar.  Me dijeron que había habido un cambio de planes y que querían que adquiriera algo de experiencia laboral en el sector inmobiliario antes de incorporarme a la empresa.  Pregunté cuánto tiempo, y me respondieron: «al menos un año».  ¡AY! Conseguí un trabajo vendiendo inmuebles, pero no tardé mucho en darme cuenta de que aquello no era para mí (solo puse a la venta una casa). Aunque todavía no era cristiano, creo que Dios me guió hacia la salvación y, finalmente, al equipo pastoral de la Iglesia Hessel, donde permanecí durante 32 años.

La Biblia nos dice que Dios es inmutable; Él y Sus promesas NUNCA cambian. ¿Cómo sería tu vida cristiana si Dios no fuera inmutable y sus promesas fueran condicionales, como las del Departamento de Carreteras del Estado de Washington en 1960?  He aquí algunos ejemplos:

* «QUIZÁS nunca te deje ni te abandone».

* «Si  confesamos nuestros pecados, Él es fiel y justo para QUIZÁS perdonarnos nuestros pecados y limpiarnos de toda maldad».

* «Ausente del cuerpo, tal vez esté presente con el Señor».

* «Si confiesas con tu boca que Jesús es el Señor y crees en tu corazón que Dios lo resucitó de entre los muertos, tal vez seas salvo».

*  Tal vez haga que Jesús sea tu abogado.

* «En verdad, en verdad te digo: si crees, tal vez te dé vida eterna».

*  Si estoy de buen humor, «QUIZÁS escuche tus oraciones».

¿No estás agradecido de que Juan 3:16 sea 100 % cierto y no condicional:

Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo

que dio a su Hijo unigénito

para que todo aquel que cree en él

NO PERECERÁ, sino

TENGA VIDA ETERNA»   KJV
