Teachings of Jesus - Matthew 22:34-40 - June 20, 2025
In the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 22, Jesus is continually challenged by the Pharisees. They were not interested in lending a listening ear to what He was saying. Their only concern was that He was challenging their authority.
A lawyer among the Pharisees approached Jesus in our passage and tested him. He asks Jesus what is the greatest commandment in all of the Law.
Jesus answers with the compelling statement of loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind and then offers a second commandment: loving your neighbor as yourself.
Jesus ends the proclamation by saying that all of the Law and the Prophets depend on these two key ideals.
It seems simple until looking at the Law in the Old Testament. The Ten Commandments were God's requirements for people's relationships with God and people's relationships with each other. And upon examining that Law, one quickly realizes the subsequent failures of humanity in following them.
The second commandment should be incumbent upon the first. If someone does not have the right relationship with God, they cannot have the right relationship with their fellow man.
Although the most crucial commandment appears to be the simplest on its face, the Bible is full of stories of people who tried and failed at this time and time again.
Because of this, we ask for holy intercession from God. We can bow before Him and ask that He help us break down the emotional barriers that prevent us from fully surrendering to Him and allowing Him to take control of our lives for our good and His Glory. I encourage you to come to the Father and ask for that perfect submission so that together we can taste and truly see that the Lord is indeed good (Psalm 34:8).

En el Evangelio de Mateo, capítulo 22, Jesús es constantemente desafiado por los fariseos. Ellos no estaban interesados en escuchar lo que Él tenía que decir. Su única preocupación era que Jesús estaba cuestionando su autoridad.
Un intérprete de la ley entre los fariseos se acercó a Jesús en nuestro pasaje y lo puso a prueba. Le pregunta a Jesús cuál es el mandamiento más importante de toda la Ley.
Jesús responde con una declaración poderosa: amar a Dios con todo tu corazón, alma y mente. Luego ofrece un segundo mandamiento: amar a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
Jesús concluye esta proclamación diciendo que toda la Ley y los Profetas dependen de estos dos principios fundamentales.
Parece sencillo hasta que se mira la Ley en el Antiguo Testamento. Los Diez Mandamientos eran los requisitos de Dios para las relaciones del ser humano con Él y con los demás. Y al examinar esa Ley, uno se da cuenta rápidamente de los constantes fracasos de la humanidad en cumplirla.
El segundo mandamiento debe depender del primero. Si una persona no tiene una relación correcta con Dios, no puede tener una relación correcta con su prójimo.
Aunque el mandamiento más importante parece ser el más sencillo en apariencia, la Biblia está llena de historias de personas que intentaron y fracasaron una y otra vez.
Por esta razón, pedimos la santa intervención de Dios. Podemos postrarnos ante Él y pedirle que nos ayude a derribar las barreras emocionales que nos impiden rendirnos completamente a Él y permitirle tomar el control de nuestras vidas para nuestro bien y Su gloria. Te animo a que te acerques al Padre y le pidas esa entrega total, para que juntos podamos gustar y ver que el Señor es bueno (Salmo 34:8).
